Mysterium 2004 was so much fun that everyone wants to know where the next one will be! You can help decide the location for Mysterium 2005 by sending us your suggestions for locations. We will take the top five or six locations and put them on a poll for the entire community to vote on. Please email your suggestions to mysterium@wi.rr.com by September 15 so we can set the location early this year. Thanks for your help!

With the exception of the first one, there's been an East-West alternation. So either West Coast again, or the Midwest. Hopefully somewhere further South than all except Carlsbad have been.

I live in California, so naturally, I'll promote places there. San Francisco has plenty of places to look at and visit (and good landmarks for the logo! :)). LA does too, but I really don't think a convention that involves lots of transportation would work well there. San Francisco has bad traffic as well, but I think the public transportation system is better. Don't know much about San Diego, but the weather would be good there.

Further east: Someone once suggested Boulder, Colorado, I think. I don't know what's there, but to my knowledge the surroundings are scenic.

Well, that's all off the top of my head.

Spokane! :)

Hmmm, probably some place in the mid-west since it's kind of their turn, eh? :P

Cool. I remember another thread, no time to look it up...before the Toronto thing was settled. Some ideas floating around then were for the South. Mysterium hasn't been southeast yet. I think St. Louis was one idea, Oklahoma City was another, and mine was Mammoth Caves in Kentucky.

Caves. Me like caves. Carlsbad rocked. :P

If we insist on the west somewhere, there are also caves in Utah, Timpanogos near Salt Lake City being the most well-known.

Just some ideas.

Hey, good suggestion! :(

Indeed! :)

Boulder is a beautiful place, with spectacular mountains, scenic drives, and some interesting attractions. Plus, it's only 45 minutes from Denver, which has some nice museums and stuff. It's also fairly centrally located in the USA. :)

And it has a good system of public transport. I should know, given that I took the bus to and from school most every day. :D

Actually, I better shut up, or else someone might take me seriously

This isn't a shameless plug. It's a shameful one :P

After hearing detailed descriptions of the humidity of St. Louis summers and leaving contrails as you walk there, I'd prefer a city with a dry heat, away from the South. :) Otherwise, the group won't want to part with the hotel's air conditioning. :)

Attending next year is still sketchy for me, but I'm leaning toward Minneapolis, Chicago being a second choice. :P

Okay, if this is actually the official place to vote on Mysterium05 locations I will give my opinion (again) ...

#1 Chicago
#2 Minneapolis
#3 Savannah GA
#4 Boulder CO
#5 St. Louis MO
#6 Stratford Upon Avon - Eng UK
#7 Almost any place on the West Coast
#8 San Francisco (Now the West Coast is entirely covered)

There.

River1lala's post gives me an idea. Instead of a poll where you can pick one and only one choice, how about each voting person list the top X choices for location, and then decide using that as a basis? That way, rather than a simple majority, you can pick a location that's mutually satisfying to all, rather than just the largest number of people who happen to live in an area. Otherwise, you'll just have a vote split every which way.

Yeah, that's a really good idea. That way you can cast your second vote for the second favorite, etc. It really doesn't work well when you can only cast a vote for your first favorite.

Tay: Well, you can really only have one favorite... :)

Stratford-upon-Avon, while a perfectly nice place and home of Shakespeare (I liked the place, anyway), I think is invalidated as Mysterium is, I believe, a North America-based gathering...they've tried to get a EuroMysterium a few times now I think, but I don't believe it has happened yet...

We're working on it, myst-bert. Summer 2005, if all goes well.

Well, since everyone seems to be voting here, I might as well cast mine for Minneapolis.

Where's the website? All serious campaigns have websites now (both of them, that is :P)...

Also, if I were to fly to Boston's airport, I'd have to fly with NorthWest instead of KLM.

But if you have anything to say that might convince me... I'm listening.:)
