Please note this thread is ten years old. It's been allowed to be reopened for the sake of, um, historical content. Yeah that's it! Or just whimsy and nostalgia on my part. Something like that.

When you enable the "Torsk" easter egg, a weird object appears in the lower right-hand corner. What IS it? I've been wonderig about that for a long time..
(well maybe not LONG but you get it)

I'ts a gun. The egg refers to an April Fool's Day joke about realMyst being a first-perosn shooter. Never happened, but they did incorporate certain elements of that into realMyst...

The joke was MYST Mayhem. It's the picture on the left.
I think it was a parody of FPS games and how MYST would look if you could play in FPS mode.

I still wonder why they didn't make the gun exactly the same.
And why it doesn't actually fire -- that we know of, that is.

Let's not, however, forget the tower-gun egg.
(I don't remember the specifics of it, though.)

That would be the “YourInMySightsNow” egg  (sic). :)

Just visit, for instance, Zardoz' realMyst Easter Egg Hunt site, specifically this page, to find out more.

BTW - that one does fire. :)

The current opinion, if I remember correctly, is they wanted to finish rendering the gun but ran out of time and resources.

hmmm. Is that close? Did I really mess that up? Is the answer on Zardoz Egg Site? Is this my shoe? Did I make my bed this...
:)

This is 10 years later so I will shed some light on the "torsk" gun. This Easter egg was added by a programmer and was included without any knowledge of management/designers in the true tradition of eggs. I'm really unsure how it was even discovered. It doesn't do anything besides the silly visual of an fps game. It has no connection to myst mayhem and was coded up for fun in a few minutes.

Now I'm curious - how did it get the name torsk?

Please don't bump threads that are more than a month old. A link to the posting guidelines is at the top of the page... wait! :twitch:
This one is TEN YEARS OLD! :chairfall:

Oh, why not post here? It can be a sort of anniversary resurrection. ;)

The links in this thread are so old the sites have been taken down and/or ISPs have changed. I changed the link on my post but Zardoz realMYST Easter Egg Hunt site has been down (or moved) for years. :cries:

Zardoz? Where are you? :eyebrow:

The easter egg's probably a hint that we're going to get guns in Mudpie. I can just imagine running through the ancient D'ni city, wondering what new Ages await us, puzzling over that machine we found in Ae'gura, watching to make sure we aren't about to be blown to smithereens by one of our fellow players lurking behind a pillar. It's going to be awesome.

Dibs on Veovis's stash.

My dog ate my EggSite. Wait, I don't have a dog. Okay, it was a negative energy vortex. Hate those, particularly when you get some on your sleeve. Blech.

EDIT: O MY GOODNESS! You never know WHAT a negative energy vortex will burp out:

A Beyond Ancient, Creeky, Old Eggsite

And speaking of Torsk....

DANGER, WILL ROBINSON: No guarantees on all the egg-links.

:cheesy: Yes! Thanks, Zardoz.
I was hoping you had some saved pages and would republish them.
