!shorah

Mysterium 2005 approaches quickly, and we'd like your help! Since the
very first gathering of Myst fans, the Mysterium Committee has adopted
the falling man as our icon. Each year, the Falling Man logo is adapted
to each location. We're looking for a black and white (no grey, please)
design incorporating the falling man that we can use on the front of a
Tshirt and possibly EDGE discs. All submissions will become property of
CyanWorlds,Inc. Please send submissions to mysterium@wi.rr.com by
midnight on April 30,2005.

You can find a copy of the falling man design
here .

Good luck, and may the best design win!

What should it say on the logo? Just "Mysterium 2005"? Or something more?

What you have it say or look like is up to you. Each year's logo is unique, always incorporating the falling man into its design. Often it reflects something unique to the location of that year's gathering, such as the Liberty Bell in the 2002 Mysterium in Philadelphia. So be creative!

i'm getting some good suggestions at the GoG forums, but i want to get your critiques on my Mysterium logo!

i've made several versions...

Click here to view a spoiler.

the GoG seems pretty much split on which of these is good (the outline or the solid Sears Tower). it was suggested by several that I add "Chicago" to it, so here's the 2 versions, with "Chicago" added...

a way to get the black tower to be continuous would be to invert the text when it crosses the tower, like the picture below. however, i would have to move around the text (maybe kerning will help or hinder this) so that it doesn't cut the letters in awkward places, or end up highlighting something odd (like the letters UM... um... :) :) )
Click here to view a spoiler.

i also quickly made a version where the black tower continues behind the text...however, this would not be as easily visible from a distance.

maybe if i made the white "outline" larger...

what are all your suggestions?

Very nice, Gadren. I think the "Chicago" would be better in an italic script font, though, and I hope that the version you send to the committee will be of higher quality, 'cause I like your design. :)

okee. :)
i'm not planning on turning this thing in until near the deadline, so i can get it perfect.
when you say "higher quality", do you mean higher resolution? if so, then you make a really good point. what resolution would you recommend? (i should probably figure this out soon, so i can be working on it in that resolution).

For purposes with the iron-on printing Cafepress uses, I'd recommend 150 dpi at least.

Anti-aliasing is important, too.

Lookin' good, Gadren! :pout:

And FahrmBoy's new slogan is 'I love you'! Awwwww... :)

Or is that old? I just noticed it a few minutes ago...

Well that post was really on topic... :)

I like the second to last one most. Maybe you could go with FahrmBoy's suggestion with the italic font for "Chicago," if only to see what it looks like.

oooh...very nice! :)

a couple suggestions:
the "a" and "the" probably don't need to be there...but that's just my opinion.
i love the gangster falling man...however, the overlapping with the text is a bit distracting. i tihnk it would look best if the falling man was moved vertically up a bit, so it's not overlapping. also, if that was done, it would look like the "gangster" was almost sitting on the text...which would look cool.

also, i don't know about the font...it doesn't seem Chicago-y enough...

but i really like your idea!

Obviously, you're not a Mac-user, so maybe you don't get the font joke here. ;)

The "a" and "in" (I assume you mean those, as there is no "the" in it :) ) was an attempt to create a gangster-movie-poster-feeling, both with the typography, and with the actual text; "a Mysterium in Chicago" sounds a lot to me like it could be a whodunit movie or book or akin. Maybe that idea didn't work, not sure. I've also been trying to place the gangster in different ways as you suggest, but this was the one with the most balance in it, IMO. I could try some more though.

Thanks. :)

EDIT: Typo-ish.

We are very pleased to announce that we have a winning logo for this year's Mysterium! After much deliberation and discussion, a logo for Mysterium 2005 has finally been chosen. Almost two dozen designs were submitted from MRD fans all over the world, so the choice was not an easy one.

Thanks go out to Ohvhil, Night Sky for a remarkable design of the Mysterium falling man and the Sears Tower. Congratulations, Ohvhil! You can see this and all the other design submissions here.

Thanks to everyone who sent samples of their artwork!

what did it look like?

the chosen logo is nice (the Cyan "C" and Sears Tower works well), but th text is way too unreadable...if it was made with the text going around the "C", then maybe it would work better... realize that this is going to be a small design on T-shirts...it will be impossible to read, i think.

well, i don't want to sound like a sore loser, so i'll be quiet now.

As the old saying goes;

"If you can't say anything nice (or constructive) then keep your mouth shut!"

That's the way I always heard it and so will not say anything myself.
