As Cyan bids farewell, what will become of Latus, do you think?

Rand, If you are reading this while pondering in the "garage" while preparing for the "comeback special" here are a few ideas;

1.) Render the current Cyan Headquarters into a game environment. That way it will be something we can visit and make the basement a special prize.

2.) Do something like you did with the Zandi Sprial puzzles except larger scale. Really involve photography, GPS and the like.

3.) Instead of a puzzle environment I would like to see some educational software except for adult or rather "non-children". If anyone can make it fun to learn languages, history, computer programing, design, you can.

4.) If you have considered selling Cyan HQ please reconsider. I'm sure it could be used as;

a.) A "Writer's Guild" Center where future game developers can come and learn.

b.) Open up the place as a museum for the Myst legacy.

c.) Film studio

In other words don't let that beautiful place become just another business location.

Unlike some who are saying this is the "death" of Cyan I disagree. I business can exist and still be dormant. Please stay in touch with your talent and the community.

Rand, if you ever sell that building, please keep the front outer wall for posterity's sake.

(P.S. Please don't sell the building.)

Judging from the fates of other games that were in development when their respective companies shut down, then if Cyan really disbands, Latus will probably:
  • Be simply cast away.
  • Sold as a concept to another company (I was thinking of Ubisoft here, but if I've understood correctly they have already denied to fund Latus).
  • Continue to be developed in whichever gaming company Rand and/or a core of Cyan employees will be absorbed.

SBS :)

PS: Apple? :mower:

Yes, gaming is Apple's weak spot. If the bought out Cyan (kind of like the way they bought out the Filemaker people) it might be good for both parties and we know how Apple friendly Cyan is.

BTW, Apple is set to annouce something big this coming week. Many think it's an iTunes phone but who know what they could surprise us with. :)

But the real question is whether Apple is Cyan-friendly. :)

I'd say that the possibility of Apple reshaping their plans to incorporate gaming via a crumbling adventure game company is... far-fetched. At best.

But hey, summer is drawing to an end. It's high time apples started usurping the watermelons and other summer fruit. :P

I don't think we will see Latus realise in any forseeable future. It is pretty hard to sell a game concept to another company unless it builds on a VERY successful brand or its development has proceeded far. As far as I understand, Latus was not to be a Myst game and it was only at the concept demo stage.

I'm going to have to agree with Wanais on this one... much as it pains me to admit it, I think we're never going to see Latus as a finished product... we may never even find out what it was going to be.

Unless Myst V sells really well, that is...

Given the number of times they've featured Myst games on their product pages, one wonders. :mower:

Apple releases software for the PC and with Apple going to the intel chip it might not be that big of deal anymore.

Based on that was said about the closure by Ubi, maybe Latus is the Book of Marrim. Apparently in the Special Edition of EoA, you get an excerpt from the book.

That may well be Latus.

I personally think that Latus won't be cancelled, just postponed, until Rand and co. can start back up again.

Cyan the gameing subsidery of Apple??? :mower:

I'd like to point out that Cyan has a couple of backup project proposals that, I speculate, are more likely to be realized than Latus is in the near future. I certainly wouldn't mind if Cyan published a Something Other Than Latus!
