I wasn't sure where this should go, but here seems like the best place. My appologies if it is not.

There always seems to be people asking how to extract music from the Myst games. Ive asked a few times myself. There are dozens of threads here that explain how to do it, but you have to go wading through a lot of stuff to find them. So I thought it might be a good idea to have a whole thread dedicated to extracting music from the various games.

WARNING: This contains spoiler for ALL the games!

Ive done a bit of research and fiddling around and Ive put together a list of all the information Ive found thus far. Ive listed here where to find the music, how to extract it and what you need to play it.

I only own Myst ME, Riven, Exile and Uru and its expansion, so these are the games Ive listed so far. However, this should be a continually growing beast. Ive listed the music Ive found, but Im sure theres some more in there I havent come across. Also, of the music I have extracted, Im not 100% sure where some of the music files play in the game.

As I said, the list will be continually updated and I encourage anyone who has comments, suggestions or info to add to add it to this thread. As new info comes to light, Ill update this main list.

I hope all you Myst Music lovers find this helpful. So without further ado, lets get on with it.

Myst (added 22/04/06)

Ive been playing with the newest version of the Riveal program (thanks RonHayter this is a brilliant program!) and extracted all the sound files from Myst Masterpiece Edition. Here Ill list the files of interest and where they appear in the game. Please not there are a number of other sounds the program also extracts such as the linking sound effect and various mechanism sounds, but Ive just listed here what might be considered soundtrack files. Also, there are a few Im not certain of where they appear in the game. Anyone who does know please feel free to add the information.

Riveal organises the extracted files into folders corresponding with where they appear in the game using the abbreviations CHANN (Channelwood), CREDITS (end game credits), DUNNY (Dni), INTRO (game intro) MYST (Myst Island), SELEN (Selenitic) and STONE (Stoneship). Here are the files of interest that appear in each folder;

Channelwood
muchnach1 Achenars Hut
muchansir1 Sirrus Hut
muchtmp1 unsure

Credits:
mudunlos1 Bad ending (trapped in Dni, trapped in Red or Blue book)
mudunwin1 plays over credits when you quit the game

Dni:
Same as Credits

Mechanical:
muachcas Achenars Torture Chamber
muachenr1 Achenars Room
mubookrm1 Myst linking book room (I think not 100 % sure)
mulwrlyr1 unsure
mumidlopl3 Main building (the Temple/barrocks/watch tower whatever)
musircas1 Sirrus wine/storage room
musirrus1 Sirrus Room

Myst Island:
muflystn1 Stoneship Book Room
muflychn1 Channelwood Book Room
muflymch2 Mechanical Book Room
mugenstr1 Generator
muobserv1 Tower
muplanet1 unsure
muvault_1 Dock Forchamber

Selenitic:
muslbkmv1 Maze Runner station

Stoneship:
mubokbub2 Below Decks (room with Myst Linking book)
mustacrm1 Achenars Room
mustsrrm Sirrus Room
mutelwin1 Lookout Glass

Alternatively, on Cyans Myst site you can download a selection of music and sound effects from the game.

Riven

To extract the music files from Riven, you need the Riveal program which you can find for download HERE. Riveal also lets you extract movies and images from the game. The site gives you all the information you need to know about using the program.

Exile

The music in Exile is quite easy to extract. All the music files in Exile are .mp3 files, so any audio player will be able to handle them. You can find the music files at C:\Program Files\Myst III Exile\M3Data by default.

Youll notice that in the M3Data folder there are a whole bunch of folders. The music files are divided up into these folders via the Age they play in. The folders have names corresponding with what Age files they contain (mainly the first two letters of the folders name). Here is a rundown of which folder contains which Age files;
EN Voltaic
LI Edana
TO- Tomahna
LE JNanain
NA Narayan

Here is the list of the songs in the game. Ive included the file name, the song title and which folder it appears in.

Eg.; * file name: Song title (folder)

*EN_THEME_full: Voltaic Theme (EN_T)
*LEIS_SAAV1: Saavedros Theme (LEIS)
*LEOF_OS_MUSIC_pad: JNanin Theme (LEOF)
*LEOS_SCENE_5_2: JNanin Observatory (LEOS)
*LI_THEME_C: Edana Theme (LI_T)
*MA_THEME_full: Amateria Theme (MA_T)
*NA_SCENE10_pad: Encounter With Saavedro when Saavedro confronts you the first time in Narayan (NA_S)
*NA_SCENE12: Narayan Theme (NA_S)
*TOHB_Endgame_Music: Exile Theme (TOHB)
* TOHO_MUSIC2: Tomahna Theme (TOHO)

There is also the music that plays when you release Saavedro at the end of the game, but I could not find the file.

Myst IV: Revelation (updated 30/ 10/ 2007)

To extract the music files from Revelation you will need to use the Revelator program (thanks to Riven-Wanderer). You will need Revelation installed on your computer as well as Java.

Here are the music files of interest. Youll notice that the files have reoccurring letters in them, HN, SA, SP and TO. Obviously HN = Haven, SA = Serenia, SP= Spire and TO = Tomahna, however, Im not entirely sure where each appear in the Age so the below are guesses at best. I hope others can fill in/ correct the information.

Haven:
*MU_HN_01_full.ogg Arrival in Haven + The Ship
*MU_HN_01A_full.ogg Haven Jungle
*MU_HN_01B-53.wav - ?? (Possibly Ship interior)
*MU_HN_01B_full.ogg The Swamp
*MU_HN_01C_full.ogg Sleep Spores (where the Camoudile comes at you but is put to sleep by the plants)
*MU_HN_01C_instr.ogg - Sleep Spores (Instrumental version)
*MU_HN_01D_full.ogg Achenar's Hut (in the jungle)
*MU_HN_02_full.ogg Lake House
*MU_HN_02_orch.ogg ??

*MU_HN_03_drums-1.ogg Saving the Marquees (After final joyride)
*MU_HN_03_drums-2.ogg - Saving the Marquees
*MU_HN_03_full.ogg - Haven Theme

Serenia:
*MU_SA_01_full.ogg Serenia Theme
*MU_SA_02_full.ogg Hall of Spirits
*MU_SA_02A-1.ogg Dreams (possibly Harvester/ Memory Chamber)
*MU_SA_02A-2.ogg Dreams 2 (possibly Harvester/ Memory Chamber)
*MU_SA_02A-3.ogg Dreams 3 (possibly Harvester/ Memory Chamber)
*MU_SA_03_PG_edit.ogg Curtains (by Peter Gabriel)
*MU_SA_03_PG_Instrumental.ogg Curtains (Instrumental)
*MU_SA_HOS_choirdreampad.ogg Dream Sequence

Spire:
*MU_SP_01.ogg Main Palace (Top of Spire)
*MU_SP_01_synth.ogg (bottom station)
*MU_SP_01_orch.ogg - (bottom station)
*MU_SP_02_full.ogg Spire Theme (Sirrus' Lab)
*MU_SP_03_full.ogg - (Bottom of Spire)

Tomahna
MU_TO_1-1.ogg to MU_TO_1-5 - Tomahna at day
*MU_TO_01A_full.ogg Tomahna theme (before Atrus leaves)
*MU_TO_01B_full.ogg - Tomahna theme (after Atrus leaves)

*MU_TO_02B_FULL.ogg -Tomahna at night (after seeing Achenar)

Other:
*MU_Menu-1.ogg Endgame/Credits
*MU_Menu-2.ogg Revelation Theme/ Main Menu

You may notice a number of ?? there. These are files I have no idea of where they appear. Also, as I said before I am not confident that these files do actually appear where I have listed them as appearing. If you have any corrections please let us know! Ill edit the list if anyone has any.

Myst V: End of Ages

Luckily you can get at the music files of EOA exactly as you would the music files in Uru. Below are the files of interest.

dsntEsher-Intro_Mx.ogg Eshers Theme
kverYeeshaConc02Mx.ogg Eshers Fate/ Bahro take Esher away at the games end
dsntRestAreaMusic_Loop.ogg Great Shaft/ Eder Tomahn

Files with ?? or (??) I am unsure of. As always if anyone has any information or correction please post them. For now, I hope this somewhat un-finished list is helpful.

Uru:

Ive broken this up into three separate sections, Uru Prime, To Dni and Path of the Shell. This is because, obviously, the expansion packs include new music.

All the music for Uru, including the new music from the expansions, can be found at C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\Cyan Worlds\Uru - Ages Beyond Myst\sfx by default.

The Uru music files are .OGG files, so theyll need an audio player that can handle them. The best to use for this is Winamp.

Uru lists last updated 4/10/05 - thanks to Kaelri

Uru Prime:

*tldnSlaveCampAmb_Loop: Teledahn Bahro Prison
*psnlAmb_Loop: Relto music
*tldnSlaveOfficeMusic_Loop: Teledahn Tower
*tldnSporeMe_Loop: Teledahn Theme
*tldnUpperShroomMusic: Sharpers Teledahn Office
*tmnaYeesha_FinalMusic01: Yeeshas last words plays after you hear Yeeshas final speech at the end of Prime
*tmnaYeesha_FinalMusic02: Rain Comes To The Cleft plays when Yeesha makes it rain at the Cleft
*clftBookRoomMusic_Loop: The Bahro theme
*clftOpenMusic: The Cleft theme
*clftYeesha_IntroMusic: Yeeshas Theme
*clftZandiRadio_Loop: Burn You Up, Burn You Down as heard on Zandis radio.
*grsnExteriorMusic_Loop: Gahreshon Theme
*grsnInteriorMusic_Loop: Maintainers Halls Gahreshon Interior
*grsnRandTCMusic03: The Maintainers Theme
*grsnTCBridgeMusic: Gahreshon Bridge
*grsnTrainingWallMusic01: The Wall Maintainers training wall
*islmGalleryMusic_Loop: Kadish Gallery Theme
*islmLibraryInteriorMusic: Teledahn Hut
*kdshMoonRoom_Loop: Moon Room
*kdshPillarSolution_Loop: The Kadish Vault
*tldnBaronCityMusic_Loop: Barons Theme - Sharpers Dni office
*tmnaBahro_EndMusic: Back In The Desert music that plays at the end of the game

There is also a song that is a mix of all the music in the game which plays over the final credits of Prime, but I could not find the file.

To Dni

*dsntRestAreaMusic_Loop: Eder Tomahn the place where you find Watsons journal at the end of To Dni
*islmCavernMusic_Loop: Dni Theme/Kahlo Pub, off the Great Stair on Ae'gura
*islmLibraryMusic_Loop: Dni Library
*islmPalaceMusic_Loop: Dni Palace
*psnlMusicPlayer: The music that plays when you find the final Relto page in the Eder Tomahn.
*nb01PrivateRoom_Loop:Plays in Kirel, in what is commonly known as the "egg room" with the six prayer chambers.

Path of the Shell

*ahnyCathedralMusic: Ahnonay Cathedral
*ahnyMaintenanceAmb01_Loop: The Ahnonay Tower
*ahnySphere02-Amb01_Loop: Stormy Ahnonay
*ahnySphere03-Amb01_Loop: Space Ahnonay
*ahnySphere04-Amb01_Loop: Kadish Monument Ahnonay
*ahnySphere04-Amb02_Loop: Vogondola/Kadish's office
*ercaHarvesterMusic: Ercana Harvester
*ErcaMusSeg01-0: Er'cana, anywhere outside the factory, I think
*ErcaMusSeg02-1: Inside the factory, before the power's turned on
*mystLibraryMusic_Loop: Myst Library
*kdshX2VaultMusic: Sounds like a re-mix of the Kadish Gallery theme from Prime
*kverYeeshaMusic:K'veer, during Yeesha's final address. (Heavy dose of nostalgia if you listen closely.)
*kverRandMusic01-05: Fragments of the above, heard if you return to K'veer.

Ok, so that it at the moment. Please feel free to add your own info!

Now, before I go I have some people to thank. I didnt find out all this stuff by myself, so Id just like to thank those who helped me along so I could make this list.

Thanks to Kaelri, Capella, linklinker, CAGrayWolf, Riven-Wanderer and RonHayter!

Cheers folks, how you find this thread useful!

Good work :mower:

i'd like also some info on Revelation music, and how the pieces of Exile and Revelation correlate to the official cd tracks

btw this is the wrong place, since this is about D'ni mythology, not the games or technical discussions... there is a separate section for it, but i'm sure the mods will do their job :)

Yes, but the games are all divided up into their seperate sections, there isn't a general section for all the games. As this is all th egames in the one thread (I did it this way for easy access) I thought to put t here. But whatever the mods want.

Very good idea, we've probably needed this for a while. :mower:

The missing Path of the Shell files, as requested. (Spoilers, obviously.)

*ahnySphere04-Amb01_Loop: Kadish Monument Ahnonay (Sphere 4).
*ahnySphere04-Amb02_Loop: Vogondola/Kadish's office.
*ErcaMusSeg01-0: Er'cana, anywhere outside the factory, I think.
*ErcaMusSeg02-1: Inside the factory, before the power's turned on.
*kverYeeshaMusic: K'veer, during Yeesha's final address. (Heavy dose of nostalgia if you listen closely.)
*kverRandMusic01-05: Fragments of the above, heard if you return to K'veer.
*nb01PrivateRoom_Loop: This one's in To D'ni, actually. Plays in Kirel, in what is commonly known as the "egg room" with the six prayer chambers.

And just to clarify, I think islmCavernMusic_Loop plays specifically in the Kahlo Pub, off the Great Stair on Ae'gura.

Thanks, I'm glad you folks find this helpful. Thanks for moveing it Tay, I didn't even think to put it in the technical support thread. Sorry. :)

Thanks for that Kaelri! Thats great. I'll add your corrections to the main list as well. That may people don't have to go through the whole thread to find the right info!

M4 and EoA are not listed simply becasue I have not played them and haven't yet tried to extract the music from these games. Anyone that does have that info is free to add it.

I have Uru installed on my computer. I am missing some of those music files listed, however. What should I do? I have the original stand-alone installed, but I have the Complete Chronicles with the expansion packs waiting around because I have not yet finished. Thanks

Oh, and for Myst 4, the computer files are not set up the same way. I don't see the music like I do in Myst 5 or Uru.

Some of the URU files listed above are from the expansions, so try installing them and you should be fine.

As for M4 I can't help as, as I said before, I haven't played it yet or tryed to extract the music. I need a more powerful computer.

For anybody else having this problem in the future:

Make sure you can see hidden files. The Kadish Gallery theme, as well as several others, are hidden. Go to folder options, view, show hidden files and folders.

It's so amazing.

Hey, this is really a fantastic thread! Thanks for compiling all this useful info, Dougy. Now to fill in the holes:

The program Dougy mentioned for extracting music from Riven, Riveal, can also be used to extract the sounds/music from realMYST, which are (virtually) identical to those found in the original Myst, with a few additions. The instructions for using Riveal are provided in the website you get it from, the URL for which has already been provided earlier in the thread.

The best way to get the music from Myst IV is to download Revelator, which can be found here: http://homepage.mac..../Revelator.html. (Didn't I already give this to you, Dougy? Bad Dougy, for not sharing! ;)) Anyway, the program is by the same guy who did Riveal, so if you've used that, Revelator should seem pretty familiar. Unfortunately, in order to use Revelator, you must have a complete installation of Myst IV on your computer - all seven gigs of it. You will also need Java to run the program.

Otherwise, if you're familiar with Dragon unPACKer at all, you can use the HyperRipper to get a large swath of the music out of the game, but it's not going to be as comprehensive as Ron Hayter's wonderful program. Revelator also extracts dialogue and videos (with or w/o subtitles) from Myst IV.

And fortunately for us, all of the sound/music files of Myst V are laid out precisely the same as those for Uru: as OGGs in the sfx folder.

It's also worth pointing out here that only a handful of songs from Myst III can be found as mp3s in the M3Data folders. There are also a lot of other files in those folders, and quite a few sounds can be extracted from those using the HyperRipper feature of Dragon unPACKer (and I'd be willing to walk people through how to get those, if you're interested, otherwise I won't bother). But I'm afraid that to get the rest of the music from the game, you'll have to get the Myst III: Exile Soundtrack.

That's the sum total of my knowledge on this matter. I hope it can be of use to someone!

Now you can. ;) Riveal 4.0 is now available for download. I only own the original Mac version of Myst and the Myst ME from the 10th Anniversary DVD Edition, which is for both Mac and Windows. I'm hopeful that Riveal can also handle the original Windows version of Myst and the other versions of Myst ME but I haven't tried them. If anyone does try them, I'd love to hear what happens, good or bad.

Ive pulled the music files out of Myst IV: Revelation and Myst 5: End Of Ages sorry its taken me so long to do this, Ive only had a computer with a DVD-Rom for a short time.

So Ive listed the files in my original post and what areas of the game I think they relate to. As always, if anyone spots a mistake or has info to add, please let us know.

(Mods - I thought this info was worth bumping the topic, I hope that was OK?)

Cheers.

I know this is a major bump, but exactly which ones are the music files for Riven? I have a whole bunch of WAV files that I've just extracted with Riveal, but...

EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out.

Since we already have a bump, it may be a good opportunity to mention that Ron Hayter's Riveal is at version 5. :D

New features are:

- Extraction of sounds and pictures from the original Windows version of Myst,
and more pictures from Myst Masterpiece Edition.
- Extraction of sounds from Myst III: Exile.
- Made various usability improvements.
- Updated this document with information about Myst V: End of Ages and Uru.

(That was also the link to the description and download page. :D)

Talking about useful...
This is more as useful.
It is really brilliant.
It helped me a lot when I wanted to hear Myst when making homework. :D

This is really brilliant.

Maybe you should add this one to Exile:

TOHB_Endgame_Music.mp3 Credits music (TOHB)

Very glad you like it Santon. I love the Myst music too, I always have it on my MP3. The TOHB file you mentioned is in the list. The theme plays over the credits of the game.

Cheers.
