The good news first: the downtime is over! For now, anyway. :)

The even better news: overall, things seem to have gone a lot more smoothly than anticipated.

The best news: there's new features for you, and perhaps a little more to come. One feature some of you may find useful is 'ignore', which will allow you to skip over posts of members whose opinion you don't hold in high regard (it happens).

Now, for the somewhat 'bad' part. This isn't done. There's some stuff lacking (part of which is obviously the MC-specific look and feel). Worse yet, some things may break terribly. There has been limited testing, but not much of it, as my priority was to get this back up as soon as possible, especially with Uru Live so close.

So here's the deal:
  • Play around with stuff. In fact, I encourage you to, just so we can find possible problems as soon as possible.
  • Realize that things may not be quite stable yet. Realize, unfortunately, that things may get lost (although I'll try to do frequent backups), though that is not to be expected — do use the board as you normally would.
  • Do give as little or as much feedback as you'd like, in our Feedback forum, but also do realize that some areas may be improved upon in the upcoming days and weeks, and hopefully just in time for the Uru Live (re-)release.
Thanks everyone. My utmost thanks go out to Danny R, for always having been and continuing to be such a great supporter in many ways, to the testers (Tay, Capella, myst-bert and Free Bird; hopefully, I'm not forgetting someone!) and, of course, to all members, every single one of you, who made and make this place what it is!

;)

Oh, and three more things.

First, you will notice that your "emoticon theme" setting got lost. We're handling this very differently now that we thankfully can, so instead, you need to change the skin. This is easy to do; just look at the very bottom left of any page and you'll see a popup menu to choose.

Second, some spoiler tags in posts may look odd. In new posts, that's a known problem and will be worked on. In old posts, however, please point them out! I need to look which ones in particular, if any, are affected.

Finally, respond to this thread for feedback.

Yeah, I saw that! But since it isn't scheduled to ship until Spring of 2007, thought it was about time, eh? ;)
No thanks necessary, Chucker. Even us old timers realize all the work you do to keep this haven up and running.

Man.....was I EVER going through withdrawals while MC was undergoing its upgrades. :)

Looks great Chucker. Glad to overall upgrade went well and great to see MC back on-line. I'm already somewhat familiar with the newer IPB forums and will point or and/or make suggestions as I see them, and assuming they haven't been pointed out to you yet. :)

I hear you ... and as was I. I did my usual check every morning, MC being the first forum I check every morning ... and found myself almost lost without my "other" morning fix.

Seeing this "v2.1.7" mark in the footer of the pages for the first time actually made me leap with joy! ;)

Thank you, Chucker and Danny and everybody else who contributed; thank you very much!

Exactly how long has MC been down? I've been so busy this summer, I haven't checked in for at least a month. *stares in amazement* Oooh! Fancy new options! How fun! What does this button do? *crashes the internet* Cooooool...

[/irreverent mode]

Thanks for working so hard for us all, Chucker!

I. WAS. SO. BORED. Until MC got back up and running. Scha-wheet.

But, in the meantime, I played Myst 3 and things were better - until I had to take it back to the library. Stupid due dates..... :)

They have them here in NZ (in Auckland anyway, can't speak for the smaller cities), but I must admit I've never seen a Myst game in a library here- that is impressive.

One of the local libraries here (southwest Michigan) has quite the impressive collection of computer games--not sure about the other one in town, but that's only because I don't visit it very often, if at all. They're pretty technologically savvy (last I heard they were setting up free wireless internet and a system where you could check out laptops rather than wait for one of the desktop stations...like that), but they've offered computer games for at least six years now. I was under the impression that that was the new norm with libraries.

(They also have a good collection of adventure games...that's what they got for hiring me and asking me for game recommendations. :))
