I got back from dinner to return to the far tower, and having the glyph from the third pedestal.

I had a heck of a time finding the third set of co-ordinates for that last viewer in the observatory, so I backtracked for a while to the last telescope and looked at EVERYTHING.

Toldemer08.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/IDdjSqD.jpg

No dice.

I went back to the cable car and stepped in and turned around and got it working! Once I got to the stop in the middle, there it was. Why couldn't I see it with the telescope on the small platform?

Toldemer09.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/4AYDl6X.jpg

Also, there's a planet icon, with the rings tilted so maybe this is where Escher's command for me to use the Bahro comes in.

I returned to the Keep and dropped off the slate then went to the third working 'scope and I copied the co-ordinates in and nothing.. so obviously I needed to use that symbol I found in the second tower.

I went back and picked up the slate from The Keep and put in the symbol.. WHOA! So cool!

I ran back to the observatory and the clock inside was going bonkers! Apparently this control of the stars is TIME being pushed ahead? Seems correct. The planet overhead tilted a bit and the big storm on it, moved - and IS moving - albeit slowly. I only noticed by checking out some quick succession snaps I made whilst trying to catch a shot of a shooting star (which I couldn't). Even MORE cool. Got snaps as it was moving and afterwards..Still not right. I gave the slate one more command and the Bahro came out and jumped the time again, and lo! in the 'scope now, I'm looking high into space and there's the final glyph on the fourth pedestal and the planet above has the correct ring 'tilt'.

Toldemer12.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/l3LebkZ.jpg

I got back to the Keep and as before, sent the Bahro on, but it took a bit to draw the icon correctly - two tries, I'm hurrying and making a mess of it. I went back up to the tower and got a few final pictures. Then jumped up to the last pedestal.. and things got WEIRD.

Escher was there and he went on about the power of the D'ni and about rebuilding and got a bit off his nut about it! It just seemed that he's not telling me what HIS motives are, and after listening to him, and thinking of the *way* he said what he did. I don't know.. It's just not rubbing me right at all. Oh boy.. I will keep going, but.. just feeling uneasy here. Maybe I should re-read Yeesha's journals again.

Did manage a few snapshots of the space station - I particularly like the view out the windows and the lighting being different on each level.

I'm going to peek in on this third age, but don't plan on much tonight..

Am using my portable journal interface.. so I can keep quicker updates. I landed in Noloben and met Escher right off.. He said this was where the Bahro come from - the birds are quite annoying, and I can see why they'd want to leave! I thought the bugs on Toldemer were bad.. Buuuu..

I found an inverted glyph at the foot of a shrine - that it is upside-down is easy enough.. rain.

So I went back and got the slate and made the rain come.. and noticed that the four holes in the canopy over the 'shrine' fill the cups - once the rain came, there's an icon reflected in each! Clever!

Now to figure out what they correspond to. Am off to explore the rest of the island.

Hmmm. Just found a tunnel that dead ends, and another one that runs out to a different side of the island. There's a doorway that has a tree on it! Yeesha's mentioned a tree and being the 'grower'.. Hmmmmm.

Great! I drew down the icons on the outside of the building atop the island (found the rope that brought down the ladder) and set them around a circle that represented the building. Using the port-windows I worked out the corresponding shapes inside - numbers, it appears.. and after a bit of fiddling, realized that the squat posts with rotating tops were controls for doorways under the island. I started with the one closest to the right, from the ladder and worked around counter-clockwise setting each to the corresponding icon from the 'shrine' and got inside.. and met Escher again.

He was a bit more forthcoming but I did not realize some of the things he said - though I figured out that the tablet is on EVERYONE's 'want' list.

What I want to know is, who made it? Someone did and lost the ability to use it.. Yeesha.. Escher or Calam?

I got up to the top and found Escher's notes - Hrmmm.. shades of Achenar with his dissected bodies. Christ, this is really NOT what I want to deal with. Now I am left wondering more than ever, if Escher isn't the person that was in the prison age. In Yeesha's journal, his 'serpent' icon appears on the house-shaped slate. Is she trying to tell me he ended up there for causing pain and suffering to the Bahro? Does that serpent icon stop them with pain?

I don't like this at all.

I'm going to go back up top, grab some more snaps, then bring the slate in - should I put the second glyph on it to activate the pedestal, or just set the blank down? I'll draw it out, to be sure, so I don't have to double back and then, close up the building and link in.

Ugh..

Added snaps:

Now what? I got the ladder to drop down, so I could find the next pedestal.. went back down, linked with the slate back to the main pedestal, drew in the glyph, sent the Bahro on ahead and I'm stuck.

What am I supposed to do now?

I mean I can see the dissolving door, through the mirror-lens and have worked out that it opens when I step on the door symbol. Got the tree of light at my feet.. Tried putting the slate on it, but that didn't work.. I suppose I can try that glyph from Yeesha's journal that is on the rounded top slate and see what it does.

Later...

After going to the doorway on the island that The Keep is on, I tried Yeesha's 'help' icon but the Bahro merely left.

Tried from a different angle and it took the slate back to the main pedestal.

I finally had a brain-wave and went for using Escher's serpent symbol on the slate and left it on the tree icon atop Escher's lab. (This was NOT done easily - what if it hurt the Bahro?)

I linked to the beach and got a distance from the main pedestal and watched and waited.. The Bahro *finally* dropped off the slate, so I imagined that was enough time to get to the doorway and scoot in when the slate was picked up. I gave it a whirl and got in... and copied the glyph and linked back to the main pedestal, sent the Bahro on ahead, linked in and there's Escher all pissed off at me!

Mr. Ranty-pants goes on about what HE knows and I don't.. Oh, I "don't know" - damn right I don't!

Sorry dude, but you've HARDLY been *clear* in your statements, and it's NOT like I've known YOU since you were a kid. I'll get that 4-way golden tablet and give it to the Bahro ~JUST~ to piss you off!

I'll trust the girl and what SHE writes FIRST!

If Yeesha is anything, she IS her father's daughter.

Gah! My graphical interface video card has decided it doesn't like these last two Ages. I had to do my walkthroughs VERY slowly in Noloben, as the grasses made my system bog (this is what I get for running the game with the graphics maxed out) Now for whatever reason, I have weird trees at the highest resolution in Lakian! At the lower resolutions, they show up fine, but at the high-end is where they get really cool - LOVE the floating foliage! LOL!

Lakian01.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/WvFyjCx.jpg

Now on to the creepiness.. That BIRD!

Jesus, Mary and Joseph!!! What stuff of nightmares! This thing just. creeps. me. out. And the noise it makes! I'll take the flies on Toldemer!

CreepyBird01.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/jRJ8Shj.jpg
CreepyBird02.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/3EQZJxh.jpg

And after a while walking around.. eclipses!

Lakian02.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/V1TTqeD.jpg
Lakian03.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/4dr3in9.jpg

Will get down to solving the riddle of this age shortly. Am going to sit on the beach awhile..

There's things in the water!

I can't get any snaps because I have to run my interface system on it's smaller view and the images just don't come out nice like I want.

Boo!

Anyhow, I found a glyph - three wavy lines - is it a water control of some kind?

I got up to the back field with another one of those FREEEKY birds, and there's a windmill, with some handles. I pulled and pushed buttons but nothing happened, other than the bird kept barking and hissing. This and the other one have to be connected, so maybe the glyph works this device.

Will try later as now is the winter of my discontent and I have to dig out my car... AGAIN!

WIND! the glyph is for wind!

I sorta got the back/side gate to open and by walking into the front 'gate' - well the one that leads out to the ocean - I can see the top of a pedestal(?) just below the water..

Now obviously the windmill needs to be spinning to open the gate and drain the water - or lift the center pedestal. Will fiddle with this a few more times - just wish the bird would get blown away on the breeze - I have the audio settings to the top, with all the noise and ambience and everything set up. Which I love, but damn! I pay for it at times.

Am going to get snaps on a secondary trip, and come straight to this Age, but won't be worrying so much about speed, 'cos at top res, this Age is s-l-o-w-e-r than molasses in winter.

I wish I had had that kind of patience with the fifth installment. :) Or with any of them, for that matter.

These are pretty entertaining- keep going!

Ha! I got the pedestal inside to lift up AND managed (somehow) to turn the cage it is in, to the correct side. Be damned if I can do that again. I was poking buttons and pulling levers.. and of course I rarely manage to actually PAY ATTENTION to *what* I'm doing..

D-oH!

I could see the glyph on it easily enough, so I wrote it and sent the tablet on ahead via Bahro, and linked in from the main pedestal. Got to what looks like a theater - or something of that nature. Fiddled with the controls and got the column to drop - there's another pedestal on it, but I can't get it to rise with my weight on it. So obviously I'll need to suss out the weights and measures - though the alcove next to, with the scale gives me my total with the slate. Hmmmm.

I'm out of order!

I discovered last night that the Uru game is actually number 5 in the series, and EoA is 6! I have to STOP right here before I go any further. I have a PC version that's the Complete Chronicles - I got it as a gift many years ago, but was never able to play it. I figured because of the Online, it was the final release. Hmmm. Goes to show what I know.

Well, I'm going to dig out the Compaq XP disk I picked up at a yard sale two years ago and install it in Parallels. Should work just ducky. Will be away for a few days while I sort this out.

Will be back shortly.

Bwahahahah! That was too easy for words!

I've got Parallels installed and XP in and it works just fine - SP2 and it wants to do some activation thing, but since it's in virtualization, it can't get to the internet. BFD, I can copy out my game files to the spare partition and reinstall the XP virtual machine when it stops working and plow on to the end. Aces! Also, the screen resolution is insanely large so I can get some wonderful high-res snaps of my trip.

Anyhow, I got through the setup swimmingly and landed in the desert!

Found a sign, so apparently I'm in New Mexico.. Hmmm.

Tried jumping over the fence, but couldn't.

Got to get used to being able to see myself, though I found that I can put it into the normal view like I'm used to.

I went clockwise around the big volcano cone, and found the skeleton of something and a cloth with a handprint on it.. And a page on the ground that made the Bahro noise when I picked it up. Found TWO of those actually and total three hand print cloths that glow when I touch them.

Met a guy listening to Peter Gabriel on the radio, reading a book.. just chillin'

Am going down into the fissure, so I know what I'm going to do tonight. Could care less about the Super Bowl..

Got through the fissure pretty quickly.

Though I broke one of the bridges.. I fumbled with the views and movement but tweaked the controls and for the most part can move about smoothly.

Noticed that although I can't seem to pick up stuff, I can kick things. Also use foot pedals to throw switches. I tripped over boards and logs and worked out the windmill up top is for power. Found the hand-print cloths and some symbols and found where they go and got a holo-message from Yeesha! She's looking pretty freaky. I now know where the 'desert bird' references come from.

Uru003.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/Q7KhWKJ.jpg

Got the tree to open (here but for the Grace of God, go I - Uru004.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/V6JDz5Y.jpg) and went inside and found a pedestal with a book - I picked that up and it linked me to an island. Got four posts with the hand-print on them.. Inside is two bookshelves with books - the left one has different volumes relating to Ages - I've got some with book-holders that have hands, three with a mountain icon and a whole bunch with shell icons. The books on the shelves to the right seem to explain about each in a very cryptic way and the last set with the six volumes.. long read there...

For sanity's sake, I'm going to stick to the Ages in the columns.

This Age is off it's tits! Jumbo mushrooms and when I landed I was in a small hut inside one. Uru011.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/xA0g3QN.jpg

Kept hearing a bubbling noise and half expected to find the Cheshire Cat and a caterpillar with a hookah. Am loving the color-change as the sun whips across the sky.. and the barking of the bullfrogs.. LOL! Leaping limpets too!

I definitely would partake of controlled substances and trip across this Age.

Uru007.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/gzTnAUK.jpg - I managed to get into the bucket..... and stood there a while waiting. Hmmmm.

Oh, I am going to have so much fun in these Ages.

I *finally* worked out the tower.. the big yellow button that pulsed when I approached should have been a clue - the D'ni numeral on the top certainly was, but again, I was so caught up in the splendor of the views I wasn't PAYING ATTENTION! Geez-louise!

Got the NOISY! machinery operating and eventually worked out HOW to get into the top part of the mushroom tower.. that I could climb into the bucket - another clue of where I had to go and how to get there..

Uru008.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/iq7eFri.jpg

a rather inglorious deposit..

Uru009.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/1en86wX.jpg

Found the office above and the hidden book..

Uru010.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/bb2zcUm.jpg

..and then on to Doug Sharper's office and read his journals.

Uru012.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/HllphjL.jpg
UruMap001.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/PaHyohu.jpg

So there's someone on Noloben.. must be Escher they're writing about. Huh.

Got back to the office after following ALL the links in the books I found.. ended up at the top of one of the mushrooms - couldn't go anywhere. Don't know what that's about. I worked out that the hand-print cloths let you jump back to the last one you touched, so that's another way of getting around. Just be mindful of the order you touch the things and they can come in quite useful.

Am still working out the trick to getting under the hut - there's a ladder and I can open the trap-door, but HOW to drain out the water... got to be a control in the room above.

Worked out the deal with draining the water from under.. you need to have the trap-door SHUT then fiddle with the knobs in the control room. Ah. Found a tunnel leading off and followed. Oh joys, slave-trade.. found the cells with the pressure plates. Took a bit of fumbling to work out the doors and the switches in the middle chamber, (I took notes from the office) then on to the third chamber and the back passage to a drawbridge that is stuck. Oh it's never easy, is it..

Started afresh with the trip to Teledahn and came back up to the prison cells with the hand-cloth and got the first set of doors open but I noticed, looking into the far chamber, a hidden panel that closes when the second chamber doors are opened.. Now I'm more than determined to get across that bridge, there *has* to be another hand-cloth that I can use to link in with and track back to that panel. Just my luck, it's stuck to the backside of that bridge span...

Oookay! I took a flying leap at the drawbridge and kicked it down a bit, then gave the lever a pull and it dropped the rest of the way. Found a building by the water - there's some animal bellowing off in the distance - the one in Doug's journal perhaps? I found another cloth and hit it, then went back to the prison chambers and dropped the correct doors and then linked out then back to the shore with the cloth.. and now I'm on my way back to see what's in that hidden panel..

Hmmm. Saw the giant prawn from Doug's journal.. cool..

Uru013.jpg - http://i.imgur.com/bekfOmc.jpg

Worked out how to get the ladder down - had a flash of Doug using the tool for a more sinister purpose.. I *did* notice the picture in his office in Ae'gura, and found a linking 'stone' or whatever in the oceanside office on Teledahn. It has the same kind of coarse weave material as the hand-cloths.. (I need to keep better track of my notes in transcription, here's where it gets bonkers..) and from this stone I landed in the prison-like building that's rotating. The hand glows a different color here as well, and I've got a new book in my 'library' - Gahreesen.

Jumped back through Bevin and got a KI, which is good, since right off the bat, I've got some more reading to do. Got to get Zero Markers.. Okay. This makes sense now, as I doubled back and went to the back-passage behind the prison chambers on Teledahn and got to that book in the panel. Found a link to someone's Relto - that's got to be Phil.. only one book open for me to link with, so it's off to that, and lo! I wondered what the lights are for? "Bob O'Goobo" Got it. I heard *something* afterwards, but I don't know what I'm looking for.

Oh dear..

Ah. link stones in each of the chambers that face the floating egg.. Got all the Zero markers last night.. linked here, there and everywhere and fell off a few ledges getting them too. ALSO had a glitch that saw me walking through walls and I fumbled around looking at the backside of everything until I hit a 'fall zone', and I ended up with the thigh-slap and back to Relto. Damn, wish I'd gotten snaps. I WILL if it happens again.

So I got into the back rooms by the Great Zero and got the viewers with the four co-ordinates but I don't know what to do with them.

Saw a shell icon glowing and it's overlaid on some grainy image - looks like an age I need to go to but I only have one book in my library with a shell icon, and it's got me in one of the 'pubs' with a glowing map on a heads-up display. Are some linking books in the lower alcove, so I'll get on with these. Am going to start with the one on the left, though I think this might put me off the hunt as far as the cloths with the hand-prints.

Ha! I have sort of worked out the glitch! It's some cross-communication between the Apple keyboard and Parallels. I accidentally hit the Esc. key, instead of F1 to change my view, and I go into floating zombie mode wherein I can't move my body, but I can float through walls and things. Using the spacebar, I can crudely work my position up or down.. heh heh heh..

That's it. I'm getting out to the docks and see what's beyond that huge arch.

Ermmm. Two weeks. Was working through Gahreesen and this morning my XP stopped.

I did get a nifty Maintainer's suit, however. Will model that.

Have to re-install another virtual machine tomorrow and update my journey. Also put up the snaps I got from my unofficial 'side trips' across the Ages. ;-)
