Okay.

I'm in Spire. I've visited the other palace, all the power crystals are on full blast, the elevator is working properly, as far as I know I've set everything up. I take the main elevator down to the lower level, where I vaguely recall the Spider Chair is... and there's a portcullis standing in the way, locked, that I can't seem to get past. I can see the Chair on the other side, but the gate just rattles when I press on it.

My primary hypothesis is that there's another way to get to the Chair and I have to unlock the gate from the other side - Sirrus' journal mentions three windpipes that terminate in the crystal mine - that's one currently occupied by the elevator, one that the elevator from up by the Prison Chamber runs through, and one more beside. However, I think I've searched everywhere already and I don't really feel like going back and covering everywhere all over again in search of a tunnel that may not exist. So if I'm right, kindly say so and point me to it.

My other guess is that there's some inobvious clasp or something that I need to click on; I've already been foiled by the cover on Achenar's sliding hammer lock and the ferns in front of the monkey observation tower (...both of which I solved without looking it up, thankyouverymuch), so it's entirely within the realm of possibility.

(The reason this is a little embarrassing is that, first, Spire is by far my favorite Age in the entire series, so you'd think I'd be able to figure out one of the simplest puzzles; and second, I can't even get to the Spider Chair, let alone past it.)

???

Your first guess is true. Somewhere, there's a pipe down which you can slide to get to the chair. From there, you can open the door to the elevator. Iirc, this pipe is -

the one that's on the level with the garden and the lab

I don't think power is needed to open the door.

Ah! Suspected as much. Could you give me a directional cue? Is it in the area of the garden, the lab, or Sirrus' quarters?

Incidentally, I checked the circuit board, and there's now exactly one wire that's not lit (I think it leads to a plug marked with a triangle). Shall I assume it'll activate at the Chair?

Thanks,
CM

EDIT: Never mind, found it.

It's to the right of the lab desk in Sirrus' "room".
I've also gotten all the tuning patterns except for the electric crystal - I think I'm missing a paper somewhere...

Definitely don't feel bad. You could be like me and cheat your way through the games the first time and all subsequent playthroughs thereafter.

...I'm trying not to do that, though. I only asked the previous question because I had a pretty good idea of what it was I couldn't find and was just trying to save myself some time.

Next: I think I've missed a page somewhere (possibly a whole journal?) containing Sirrus' notes on the Blue Crystal vibration pattern. I've scoured the main area of the palace again - the docking magnets, lab level and spider chair - and turned up an additional page, but not the one I was looking for... Help!

How many single pages dealing with the blue crystals have you found?

The only one I've found is the one with the image of the blue crystal with the mention that tests with it were "successful" (I forget the exact wording), and a mention of the total power from the garden and docking station. I think it's from the cabinet in Sirrus' desk, next to the windpipe to the Spider Chair.

...If I were Sirrus, where would I put it?
(Answer: Given where his other pages are, I'd probably make a paper airplane out of it and throw it into the star, watching from the telescope. For Science, of course.)

Iirc, another one is frozen into the floor somewhere. The info in it should complete the missing info. :=}

However, my personal impression of the Chair, is that it was a very imprecise instrument. Even when i used all the info, and calculated three of the four frequencies exactly {a fourth can only be estimated, unless i too have missed some paper}, two of these turned out to be slightly off.

Yeah, frequency puzzles suck for tone-deaf people. The rocketship to Selentic was horrible!! :kthnxbye: At least I seem to have gotten over my former tone-deaf-ness. It only frustrates me, instead of me making my mom do it.

I had to give up in Spire and use a walkthrough... Math is not my strongpoint.

Revelation and Riven are the *only* two Myst games I have ever needed a walkthrough for...

I H8 actual walkthroughs, but sometimes i consult UHS. I also find it's much better than the built-in hint system for Revelation.

Agreed. If you're going to give hints, give *hints*, not riddles.

I agree with Mystress.

When you ask for hints on your homework you don't get an overly complex, cheesy riddles.

My problem with them isn;t the reedlyness, but the fact that you come there because it leaps from no info at all, to a huge spoiler. Also, you can't be sure which spot is really referring to which puzzle {names are written ion the spots, sure, but not on the puzzles!} so sometimes you get spoilers for something you didn't even try yet.

Yeah, I've found that to be true. And I'm finding myself very tone-deaf. Yes, the rocket ship to Selenitic was nearly impossible, though I found a trick even deaf people could use. That's what got me there, lol.

But my problem is... How are you supposed to tune the wires? To each other? Or are they supposed to be each at a certain tone unbeknownst to me (though maybe this last page will help)

Each wire has a shape on it. If you can identify where those shapes are elsewhere in the Age, they'll tell you what the settings should be.

Haven't found that page yet, been busy studying.
