:D in the Myst Theme, they cut out the good last half of it. ifyou have the soundtrack for Myst, you'll notice that the first track stops when then book animation is over. :saavy:

They play the first part in the opening cutscene (book falling) then the second part on the flyby (looking in the book).

In MYST Masterpiece, they really chopped up the music. We hates it forever. >:saavy:

Yep - and here's what I think happened (speculation alert! :saavy:):

You may remember that the recompiling job for the Masterpiece Edition had been outsourced to Mattel, the publisher at the time. They received the originally rendered hi-res pictures but apparently not any original sound files of better quality than those implemented in the original MYST. You can tell by the fact that most if not all noises sound just as 8-bit as in the original. Either those higher-quality files had been lost (in Robyn's attic? :D) or the sounds had been recorded in 8-bit in the first place.

The music, on the other hand, does sound better. What I think, therefore, is that the Mattel developers took it from the published soundtrack CD, tried to edit it according to the original - and sometimes failed.

That's a good theory, Danny R. I'm adopting that theory, now. :saavy:

I always hated the myst Masterpiece edition. Stupid Mechanical age. One Good thing is that you can enlarge the screen on the Linking Panels, although that makes less and less realistic. What i really want is realmyst. hey, know whats cool? realmyst (reel mist) looks kinda like realmyst (rell mist) Cause Realm? Anyway, Myst is beautiful, Compaired to MME. I never really like the mechanical age anyway, mostly because of MME.

My favorite Myst song has to be the room with the Myst book in the Mechanical Age. It starts with that hard and systematic rhythm and booming, then turns into a beautiful orchestrated piece.

Of course, MME cut out the orchestrated piece. We hates it forever. >:saavy:
