So, I finally decided to start up Riven again, so I yesterdayI played through alot of it, did some of the puzzles, wrote down the code from Gehn's journal (Which by the way, seems to be different than other people's codes. Is it supposed to be that way?), and tried my best to open the fire marble domes. I can't figure it out. I looked at some guides, and I saw a chart of D'ni numbers through 24, but I don't understand how people get the right numbers for the domes.

A little help please?

EDIT: And another question: In the island where people live, I rode the little thing up the tower type thing, next to the pool, but can't seem to ride it back down. I don't remember having this problem last time I played Riven. Is this a glitch?

Let's see. I have a very sketchy memory of these parts, but I'll see what I can remember.

It looks like the dome code could be individually generated for each game, so don't worry if yours is different.

D'ni to Arabic Numerals (I think you've done this part already, but just in case)

From there, you just figure out the D'ni numeral system (If you haven't done this yet, you can just look through the school room and figure it out - it follows a pattern).

The pattern is that the 5 is the 1 symbol put on its side, 6 is the 1 and 5 symbols merged and so on until 10, which is the 2 symbol on its side, and so on.

Numerals to Actually opening the domes

Have you stopped the domes from spinning? If not, you've got to figure that out first.

Have you powered up the domes (does "waffle iron" ring any bells?)? If not, then you have to do that first (I think).

There should be sliders to move around, and tiny tic marks to indicate what number you've put it at. These correspond to the numbers.

For the second question: did you do anything in between riding it up and trying to ride it down? That's the only thing I can think of as causing a problem (you're talking about the wooden structure that you get to by the sub, right?).

Ok, but how do I actually find what codes to put into the domes?

there are symbols that kind of look like this
Click to reveal hidden content
l l l lD l lKl (With lines on the top too)

in Gehn's journal

those you need to translate to our number system

Click to reveal hidden content
then you enter those into the dome

HINT: What makes TWO become TEN? (in D'ni numerals). You must have figured out 1-10 in D'ni, I assume?
Click to reveal hidden content
two times five is Ten.

Rotated 90 degrees clockwise = times five.

When you are bored trying, the hard and fast way to do it is to Google for "D'ni numerals". Since you already solved Riven, then you already "know" D'ni numerals but you forgot, so it's not cheating to find a guide.

On the other hand, perhaps you don't count the slots correctly?

Perhaps. The taller lines on the panel are the multiples of five, right?

EDIT: Ah, I have found my problem. I got mixed up between 24 and 21. Now let me go see if this works...

Yep. And then I placed the marbles, and I met Gehn. And Catherine...

Thanks for your help guys.

P.S. Catherine was badly casted, IMO.

Actually, I take that back. She was only bad in the first scene. The second two times you see her she acts alot more like Catherine.

Interesting. Usually people stick fanatically to RivenCatherine as the only true Catherine (in Exile, I don't really see why they're bothered so much - in Revelation, I see the point).

What's the point in Revelation? She doesn't appear at all.

Her voice sound more elderly which is quite normal.

Her voice doesn't sound more elderly, it sounds different. Waaay too different. It doesn't even have the personality of Catherine.

Well, see, Exile was the first Myst game I played with Catherine in it, so I sort of stuck with that actor.

She also develops a Cockney accent (out of nowhere) and says the most stupid unCatherine things ("I feel so.. scrutinized")

Ah, that would explain it. I also played Exile first, but, since I don't see too much difference between Riven and Exile's Catherines, it doesn't bug me.
