Announcement from mystonline.com:

Quote

Welcome back, again,

Everything takes longer than expected these days. Cyan Worlds’ plans are to move MO:UL to open source, and we finally have some good news. We’ve taken a first step and started a MO:UL server, so the Ages of Uru are available again. We’ve opened all the Ages, and added most of the goodies in MO:UL. We’re referring to it as MO:ULagain—feel free to explore and enjoy.

It's a free download, and they ask for but do not require donations.

THe Servers at Cyan are at 100 percent so be patient:

they are doing the best they can. Keep trying if you get a run time error for the sign up

the download should work ok.

Rand is in the city to welcome ppl back.

Come on home.

Wow, this is totally unexpected. :scared:

Was there any indication they were ramping up for this beyond the DRC stuff over the weekend? I just hope they don't stretch themselves too thin again and it all falls apart for them... Again. Don't get me wrong, I think this is awesome, but I hope they know what they're doing. (At least they're letting us give them money now, heh.)

server overload it seems. Since I still don't get an email to make an account. I think I'm going to stop trying now and try again tomorrow lunch break. there tend to be less people on then.

This may be the first time I'll get to be part of Uru Live, I've never been able to in the past!

Cheers,
John

They expected 200 and there have been 2000 in about 2 days..and more in line. Be patient, they are adding new severs and additional muscle, and working almost around the clock pulling staff in off other projects and all both Cyan and explorers are excited and happy ...really happpy. People are coming back from all over the world and it wil be truly ..is truly a remarkable experience.

The Guild of Greeters is there to help you out, in the city as roving helpers look for their distinctive Cyan blue shrts and hats and white shorts, or in their BEVIN thru the nexus,....here is a helpful sharing of info:

When you arrive in MOUL you are new or returning as we all are. In this new MOUL there are no ResEng, the DRC are for the large part in oversight and not in constant attendance and we are all equal, old and new, together or apart. It is an woinderul and special time, chance to see old friends long absent from or to meet and make new firends and possibly to begin as a new explorer.

Please remember to observe and follow the EULA we all agree to, be kind and courteous and refrain from any language or activity that inferfers with the fun or pleasure of other explorers. Also remember that we are all returning together and none of us should interfer with or spoil the fun of others, please keep spoilers OFF the open KI. Have fun, enjoy for this is a wonderful chance to see what we have all missed so much or to see it for the first time with other explorers.

You can pick and choose a hood you trust and enjoy being a part of, look around and find or return to one you like. You hood neighbors are there for you as are your buddies. Both are great ways to expand the fun.

The best place to get authoritative information and player friendly help is the Guild of Greeters. They can be trusted to give the fullest and most helpful advice and welcome you to the Cavern in the very best way. They will be in their own Bevin and will help you with whatever you need or you can go to their website for the fullest information on all the things an explorer needs. A KI command list will be posted shortly in my post here and they can also help with all of that. Anyone who greets you in the main city or welcomes you back is a felllow explorer and not in any authority or posiition over any us for we are all equal in the new MOUL of today. Enjoy and have fun. Shorah and it is a wonderful new day in the Cavern.

Remember you may be made a buddy by strangers, use your ignore list whenever you start seeing chat appear on your KI that you did not ask for or want. The KI is your friend.

Guild of Greeters website has great info on all aspects of the game

PLEASE NO SPOILERS OVER THE OPEN KI IN ANY PUBLIC PART OF THE CAVERN!

Please dont leave your Avatar unattended for long periods of time in the City the main City population is set at 50 curently so you will be keeping other explorers out of their journey.

The way the areas of the game work is that you will have your own private "instance" or personal version of the Ages and the other areas, AND a personal version of the main city, just for you thru your home Neighborhood or BEVIN. This allows you to play alone or together. You can share with other explorers or play alone but there are several puzzles that may require the help of others. Explore and discover...click on everything and enjoy the Journey!

Your home relto will have Journey books that allow you to link but you will discover how that all works as you progress. Ask the Greeters for non spoiley help as how things work but remember as you learn, dont spoil others, let them have the fun we all have with the great MYSTeries of the Journey

Play Nice. :scared:

the new files are not a patch. They are actualy an entire new file set. Some people are asking if they need a copy of URU CC or any other form of URU. No. The download from Cyan thru the MOUL main website, Google for Mystonline ...is the entire game you need and you do need the new files. There were necessary changes and alterations to make the new form of the MOUL game work. Enjoy! It is a remarkable experience! Hope to see everyone in the city soon.

yeah I guessed that it would be something like that but it says "checking for patcher update" that is why I called it a patch.

I downloaded it as soon as I heard it was released (a few days ago) and it installed on my Windows 7 laptop just fine. Within moments I had an avatar and was playin' some Uru Live! I'm so far taking the Journey - I've finished Kadish Tolesa and I'm trying to snag red GZM markers in the meantime.

You know what's really nice about MO:UL coming back, and in a free, Open-Source format this time? More newcomers who possibly weren't able to pay the fee for the GameTap version are able to play now, and more older members of MC are showing up again. I can say for sure it's renewed the spark between me and the Myst series, something that's been unfortunately lagging for some time now. I missed it, and it's great to have that zest for the series again, even if it is a spin-off game. ;)

As someone who was previously skeptical of the quality of Uru, I can safely say that it is one of my favorites in the series. Some of the ages are just genius, and the visuals are overall impeccable and inspiring.

Not wanting to stop the flow of this thread, but is it possible for me to get an invite to the MC Bevin? Please? I had it once, but it got lost in my Nexus... KI number is 02362208

Thanks and everyone, welcome back to URU.

My father had Uru (I was still young) we played it for a while (I dont think it was the live version) but we didn't liked it (As we had with Myst 5) so never completed it. As far as I can see it has that same SecondLife 3D style, if it had a Mac version I would have tried but can't be bothered to now.

well, you can play it on a Mac, but you have to use Wine or adapt the old Cider(?) -wrapper from Gametap. More about it here .
