... Well darn it, there's no words in any of the panels on Page 14 of The Killing Joke. That whole page includes a dramatic scene that's shown just through the pictures... :D

"There's a dry fountain south of the rocket and the library, and a ship's model that would seem to match the one on Myst Island lies deep inside."

"You may say that dear, diligent Dexter gets carried away in his job, but I like to be thorough, and I like to know where all the blood is hiding."

- The protagonist Dexter Morgan, who happens to be a blood-spatter analyst (and serial killer in his spare time), narrating; Darkly Dreaming Dexter. Highly recommended reading if you like crime novels. :D

I don't mean to imply that we live on the edge of some kind of Bermuda triangle of the deciduous world, merely that the woods of New Hampshire are a rather strange and sinister place.

Hmm. There's a blockquote on page 47. The first sentence in the quoted section is, "I thought of a way to exasperate Nanny by telling her I preferred my bread without butter."

After the quote, the first sentence is: "No doubt his going without butter was a worry -- he was removing the possibility of a lesson in the moral values implicit in food."

The Victorian House, Judith Flanders.

Heh, I've read this. Interesting book, I must say.

"The mercenaries and auxiliaries are useless and dangerous, and if any one supports his state by the arms of mercenaries, he will never stand firm or sure, as they are disunited, ambitious, without discipline, faithless, bold amongst friends, cowardly amongst enemies, they have no fear of God, and keep no faith with men."

"Other little arrangements which I will not specify seem to have been bypassed." -- Terry Pratchett, Hogfather (UK paperback edition) (yeah, I reread this book every year at Hogswatchnight, you got a problem with that?).
