So What is the Journal?

So, in Revelation you have a nice old style camera and then a really strange looking journal thing (I can't find any good picture of it, but it's fairly memorable - it would be handy if someone could get a good picture of it so we could look at it closer, and so that those who don't remember it so well could see what it looks like)
So what is this thing? How does it work? How does the Stranger write into it, and how does the Stranger get their pictures into it (instantly too, so maybe the camera is a lot higher tech than it looks)?

I always thought of it as a Polaroid >.> but yeah a kind of scrapbook/journal thing with photos and text *shrugs*
Yeah, but how do the text and pictures get there? It's not paper. I think (from my limited recollection of it) the pictures are part of the projection too, so they aren't just stuck on.

That's an interesting question. Pictures are definitely needed for those of us without an active install/easy way of getting one (my discs are still somewhere in USPS transit). If the pictures are holographic and so is the journal, maybe it's something similar to a primitive handheld tablet-computer? Displays images from camera and converts handwriting into its display?

A device with no backstory or canonical significance, added to make gameplay easier.
Actually, I've always thought of the visible part of the "Journal" as just the screen, which probably has a typewriter keyboard below it. It occurred to me before that the Journal and the Camera were actually the same device, but it seems like that would be really heavy.

I'm pretty sure the pictures and text look quite holographic or otherwise projected. Maybe the big light thing has something to do with it?
That would be really awkward to bring around (and explain to non D'ni exposed humans), especially with a keyboard.

Cool, thanks for the picture realXCV
So it looks like the main frame of the thing is... plastic? metal?
There's what looks to be bolts in the corners of the projection sheet (it definitely looks like the stuff is being projected onto the back of this sheet from the light in back - although it could be a more imager based tech like the KI), but they don't seem to actually connect to anything! Looks like a separate projection (is there a light there? or is this definitely imager-based?) for the number on the left.
