Having been a less than frequent visitor to Myst forums, i looked on in today to read the news about Myst movie announcements and following links get blank pages.
What on earth is going on?
From what i have gleaned, Adrian has left, the second of the original crew, quite probably over artistic differences. It now seems to be coming over all Hollywood and most likely hated by the true Myst fans, if it ever does see the light of day, which i now doubt very much.
Is this it in a nut shell? Or have i misunderstood due to the lack of any reliable information, what with it all being deleted.
Personally i think they should have come to the UK, we have quite a thriving film industry now able to produce good box office successes for what might be deemed niche markets.
And what on earth did cyan do to get bad mouthed by a number of fans?

Hi Topher,
Looks like the whole site has been taken down - Isaac's work?

Mmmm, thought police or speech police at work?
Seriously though, obviously this is a bit of a hot potato that everybody involves just wants dropped - a statement from Cyan would probably help here and end all of this speculation.
Will the movie ever be made? Quite probably as long as they can get the story sorted out.
Will it be true to the storyline? Probably not, like most adaptions they will take the bits that work and change the bits that don't, sadly great stories don't always make great movies hence the reason why so many movies are nothing like the original storyline.
I will be interested to see what format the movie takes and whether the producers will go for a 'Myst game' lookalike or something completely different...
And if it is a success, what next? a Riven Movie? Ooh, yes please...

All in a day's work...
This time, though, I think it was actually the sensible decision to make (unlike the many times in the past where threads were removed for bad reasons or no reason at all), provided that this time of radio silence is put to good use.

According to Chogon, Adrian's post on MystMovie.com and Isaac's post were removed not because of things fans were saying, but because the parties wanted to work out their dirty laundry not in public. As interesting as my discussions in private with friends have been about this topic, I do think that people were going overboard in picking one of two biased accounts to support and slamming the other, as well as Cyan. There are 3 sides, if not more, to every story, and people were siding entirely with one and jumping to conclusions based on emotional reactions. Some of the rhetoric got pretty vitriolic. IMHO, asking people to cease public attacks and let the involved groups work it out quietly was a good decision.

Wow I leave for 8 weeks to attend a Nano-manufacturing Processes Seminar, I'm technically still here but I got a free moment, and something huge like this happens. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait and see how this works out.
p.s. Yay I've been here over a year and only made 16 posts!

my understanding was that essentially Cyan was now working 'directly' with a studio to produce something that was 'loosely' 'Myst' based. Aswan result it requires a back to the drawing board re write, that would probably take some time.
as for the dirty laundry issue, givers that will be resolved financially in some way. i still think it a shame that the original guys got pushed out.
