When I was younger and URU was big, I didn't have a broadband connection and I didn't have money for a paid subscription. I recently heard about Myst Online and found a way to make it work on my Mac so I installed it today. I'm looking forward to my first new Myst experience in years, but I have a few questions.

1) Is this just a renamed URU? Is there a storyline? An ultimate goal? What am I trying to accomplish?

2) How do I know what any of the ages are called?

3) Do people still play this anymore? Will I run into people? I feel like that's half the experience.

Yes.

There are several, but nothing new will happen.

Not really.

There are several things you can do, corresponding to the different games that were released throughout the years. Most of it can be done alone, some of it requires cooperation.

You'll find out in due time.

Yes, but not much.

Probably, but only in specific places.

You're a little late for that, I'm afraid.

Thanks for all that! Is there anything Myst-related people do anymore? It's a shame there's not as much activity.

So I know that there were 3 different URU games released over the years. Are you saying then that Myst Online encompasses them all?

Basically.

-Uru: Ages Beyond Myst: Released 2003, contained 5 basic Ages and the Cleft.
- Path of the Shell (PotS and To D'ni): expansion added in 2 more Ages and the City.
- Myst Online: Uru Live: The 2007 GameTap revival. Has all the Ages from those 2, plus some extra Ages that are online only, some of which require other people to solve.

The game you've got now is called Myst Online: Uru Live again. It's often abbreviated to MOULa or MO:ULa. That means it has stuff you haven't seen from ABM/POTS.

The best way to play with people would be to post in the stickied gathering thread and propose a day and time. Someone online can get you into the MC hood and then we can solve some ages as a group. Mysterium is the 3rd to the 5th of August, so that's probably not a good time to do it, but you might be able to plan something for this weekend or the weekend after Mysterium and get a few people.

It's essentially a free version of Uru:CC. I think there were a few things that weren't functional in the online version though.
