I'm shamelessly stealing this idea from a member of another board I frequent. In fact, since I stole the idea and the title, I’ll steal much of the first post (paraphrased.)

His expression of sadness at sites that used to be busy and brought happiness to many only to see the above situation often occurring hit home with me and made me think of this site. So if you come here and have nothing to say leave a message here that says “posted” or something similar. Yes, this is spam and I hope Capella doesn’t kill me for this.

:spam:

Credits to screen name "Hamfast Gamgee" from that other board.

I'll post to echo your sadness at what appears to be inevitable. Sometimes it seems like just yesterday that I was sitting in front of the TV playing a borrowed copy of Riven (awkwardly on my Playstation), other times it seems like that was a past life. I've always been more of a lurker on here, but I continue to check for new posts every day that I'm at my PC.

Still checking on a daily basis - still 'visiting' Riven on a weekly basis - currently writing a fanfiction piece about Riven and my uncle's journey there many years ago and...

yesterday I won an auction on E-bay - what was the item?

What could be one of Gehn's pipes - not one we saw in the game but this one is around circa 1900 and has the 5 point start on the base of the bowl and on the lid - could easily be a Riven Star, could easily have belonged to Gehn himself...

Pictures will be posted when it arrives...

If you knew how much I ended up paying for this thing you would probably have me certified insane but it was too good a chance to miss...

I especially miss the days when the writing forums were active.

Same here. I'm pleased that there are still hotspots on the internet of Myst writing, but sad here isn't one of them. alah and I had hoped for more from the GoArch/MC prompting fest. :(

I guess the only way is if people are involved in some kind of fan activity - art, writing etc, at least it keeps it alive.
And of course... posting, discussion, talking about our own experiences of it even if it is only to reminisce...

I know most of it has probably been done to death but I can't be unique in finding revisiting Myst and Riven enjoyable even after all these years (and I have been playing them since they came out).
And from my perspective (being an old geezer) there is a whole new generation to introduce these 'nostalgic' games to...

Keep talking, expand on the storyline of Myst and Riven with 'what if's' (fanfiction is always good for that), much is said about Atrus and his sons but what about Gehn? Was he really as bad as he is made out to be? Keta was the love of his life so he must have been a nice guy once...
Gehn is a multi-faceted character who maybe had his reasons for being like he was... In fact he is probably the most interesting and complex character in the whole series...

There is always plenty to talk about and always new people to talk with, go on Twitter and push Myst and Riven for the I-Pad - I do, frequently, I push the soundtracks as well (both on Amazon), amazing how many people 'favourite' those tweets.

Spread the word...

I'm hoping to post a lot here during Mysterium. Something I love about the in-person meetups is that that many people in a room always come up with new insights and topics. If someone comes up with a stellar idea, we'll repost it here and hopefully get commentary from the forums as well.

Something I see happening on Tumblr a lot is fandom watch-alongs or read-alongs. We could have a book reread every month for the next three months and a corresponding thread where we talk about it. Sometimes things on the fifth readthrough pop out that weren't there before.

Here's an even better idea: just post a random image, memory, text snippet, link or anything related to the games. I'll start with this pretty picture:

Remember all the debates about whether you could see the person in the Riven trap book? Years ago I found this never before released view of Ghen right after he linked.

Spoiler

Well, it was funny a long time ago. :p

Today I ran through the MC hood's Delin and it seemed such a shame that the garden Age was empty. Peaceful is good, but having the walls ring with the sound of laughter and talking would be nice as well. Who'd like to have a casual reunion sometime?

I’ve never seen the MC hood but it sounds like fun. In fact, I haven’t been on URU live since the Cyan closed it down those many years ago. I’m officially, once again a newbe. I'm sure I don’t even have the proper software installed and don’t even know where to get it. That’s my long version of “I’d like to but can’t.”

Thanks. I just spent an hour re-reading that page and other stuff about the KI, Ages, etc. I might try it if I ever get time to take a ... break from RL.
