I'd just like to thank Comcast for wiping out every picture I've ever posted on every site on the Internet.

*suppresses a string of vulgar expletive-laced adjectives* >:(

Well, at least I can POST!

This morning the temperature where I live was one degree F (-17 C). No problem since I'm not home and it was 84 F (29 C) here in Jamaca. Ya Mon!

I pop back here every now and then to see if there are any new posts and what's happening with the community. This forums was SUCH an important place for me in my early 20's, just as the various Ages of Myst were. It's so nice to see it still up and running, I truly wish it was still as active as it used to be. Still, it's nice to see some folks still posting here from time to time.

It'd be nice if we all got back together and checked in once a week and posted something. Every time I think about how much this place means I get misty-eyed - friends I made on this board got me into and then through college and helped me get a job and become a Real Adult.

I'm running Mysterium this year (yes, we're still kicking) and I'm gonna encourage everyone there who ever had an MC account to come back and post :)

That would be awesome. I don't think I'll ever be able to attend Mysterium due to it being so far away (I'm in the UK) but it would be awesome if folks returned here.

Just wondering, Shinkansen...

What is the meaning of your signature?

Or is it a puzzle we're supposed to solve? (As if Obduction wasn't challenging enough!)

Well, after a brief investigation I can confirm it's not straight-up letters of the alphabet...

It's a series of groups of numbers separated by spaces.

8-19-6-16-23-8-5
4-16-19
19-10-20-15-10-17
16-23-5
10-9-4
25-19-4
22-19-19-10
1-6-15-4-4-19-10...

And the last group has additional information: the ellipsis.
1-6-15-4-4-19-10...

The groups repeat, continue to the next group, or continue forever, (or..?)

Hang on. Shinkansen has been here for years and while I don't know how long he has used that signature, it seems this should have come up before. That is, someone has solved this already. Just a thought.

Having fun watching us flounder, Shinkansen? ;)

Oh, Talashar. You’re one of the smartest people I’ve ever met but did you have to prove it by *spoiling* this so soon? I try to generate some interest and encourage POSTs and you...

Hang on. I need to get a bit of cheese to go with this whine.

Okay. Better now.

So the message is solved but what of the code? How does it work?

I'mNC, your turn.

OK, I'm grasping at straws here...
Spoiler

I used the search tool and realised Shinkansen has only posted in this thread during the past several months, so nothing else to go on there. I, like you guys, have no idea when they started using that signature so my trail seems to be dead here.

You never know, sometimes a seemingly dead trail picks itself up months later. For example, I bought a puzzle book on Kickstarter ages ago called 'The Nitch' and when it was delivered, tried all kinds of investigations to figure out its code. After a while, I gave up and put the book aside on the shelf for probably over a year. Then, I happened to pick up issue 1 of a comic book because it was cheap and I liked the cover - only to find that in the pages of the comic were the same things I was looking for! It spurred me on and gave me some new leads and I got a little further in my investigation. I still hit another wall but maybe if I take a look with slightly fresher eyes tomorrow something'll pop out...

Over six months and no POSTs about Shinkansen's code? Oh well. On to new business.

It's happened again and I don't know why. Yesterday I tried to log onto cyan.com forums with the username and password I know are correct. I got a message stating I have exceeded the number of login attempts and my account is locked. After ONE try?

Has this happened to anyone else? If I was paranoid I'd think someone, or a Bot, has been trying to log in with my username. Regardless, it's frustrating as this has happened once or twice before.

It gets worse. I click, "I forgot my password", fill in my e-mail address, and no receive no e-mail. I tried "Resend activation e-mail" and no e-mail. The last time I had to send an e-mail directly to someone at Cyan. I think it was Chogon but am not sure and don't have a copy of the sent mail nor his cyan.com e-mail address.

hmmm Now what?

And it gets better.

I submit a Help Desk ticket to http://support.cyanworlds.com/ , fill out the form, confirm I'm not a bot, and get a message "Please verify your email address. To finish submitting your ticket, you must check your email inbox. Please click the verification link we sent you. "

No problem. yay. I got an e-mail. In the e-mail there is a message: "Click on the following link to validate your email address: http://support.cyan....new-ticket/<and a 25 character hex code>" heh a 25 character code. Anyway...

Clicking the link brings me to a page titled "Waiting for response from..." stating:

"Hmmm...can’t reach this page.
Try this
Make sure you’ve got the right web address: https://support.cyan.com
Search for "https://support.cyan.com" on Bing
Refresh the page"

This circular problem shows the ending CAN be written. heh

*looks at the number of posts on this site* *decides to talk to himself*

Well. Just another incompatibility of the Windows 10 Edge browser.

I was able to open the link in the version of IE11 that comes with Windows 10.

Now why didn't I try that days ago? hmmm

Out of curiosity, what happened to the old avatars? My avatar used to be a star from Riven, but alas, now it's just a white box.
