realMyst: Masterpiece Edition was just announced by Cyan! We don't have much information yet, but it has been confirmed and titled. I love how the title just keeps getting longer and longer.

Sorry we didn’t make 2013, but we know you’ll be happier with the results. It’ll be worth the wait.

Waiting is fine. Better results is good.

I can wait. :D

This is going to be excellent. Always wanted a functional version of this.

It's out! At least on the Mac App Store. Steam version should be out soon.

I had a dream yesterday night where rMME was released, but it seems that bugs have frustrated my newfound prophetic abilities. *sigh*

Just bought it.

First thoughts:

The graphics aren't the best you can buy today, but it looks a lot nicer than previous realMYST. Myst Island doesn't look quite so well groomed and it's believable that it's been abandoned for several months. The Myst, Linking, and Red and Blue Books have new, high-res covers, so that's nice. Still using the old videos of Sirrus and Achenar, as well as the same book covers on the books in the library, though I'm sure it would've been near impossible to replace those with high-res versions.

Still, for $11 and a chance to support Cyan it's worth it for me.

Quick tip: to save a game, drag the little picture window into one of the save slots.

The flashlight feature will cause some problems with canon purists, I'm sure. :p

Well, that was good. I particularly liked the new Selenitic. (See, for instance, the screenshot that aander91 posted while I was writing this!)

Though I am disappointed that this version followed the iPad version in its treatment of the Age visible in the crystal viewer. :(

Rime was extra good looking, Selenitic was inexplicably gorgeous and Channelwood's beautiful sunset was followed by Miasmata levels of darkness. Definitely worth the $11 bucks. AA could have been a little better but I'm going to see if I can't force that on with Nvidia inspector. Anyone know what engine we're in here? It looks a little like Unreal. Edit: the game goes crazy when using Unreal profiles, but works with Far Cry 2 which was incidentally a Ubisoft engine. Edit 2: It's From Dust. I'm playing this game with about 10% of the normal framerate but with silky smooth edges now. :)

On another note, does Stoneship have a day cycle? I only ever saw it at night.

Just bought the PC version from Steam, Wow! What a difference from the original!

Superb, better quality, nice fluid movement, this is how it should have been back in the day...

Well pleased...Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Pretty sure the new Myst book cover is from RIUM's restoration.

Wait...there's another Age visible in the crystal viewer? I followed your link, but is there a guide for exactly which crystals to input for this?

Back on topic, I did find something I believe is new to this version:

The picture in Zardoz's post shows one of the combinations. (The first four crystal shapes are given in Atrus's journal. In the original RealMyst, the fifth crystal was smudged, but now it's just missing altogether.)

My one real complaint is that everything is too bright and colourful. Still, there are a LOT of nice little subtle improvements everywhere.

One slightly puzzling thing is that in Stoneship, the telescope music is now played in the sunken ship's cabin.

How fantastic is this !

I mean ......really.......fantastic !!!!!!!

I've been playing through realmyst over the past week or so ( my evil plan is to play all the myst games as it's been years since I played some of them ) and when I download masterpeice last night.....wow !

To see the original game and all the places I'm so familiar with re-imagined like this is incredible.

I've only been to Myst island, Channelwood (incredible !) and Stoneship (bring your umbrella as it's chucking it down) and so far and I am well impressed.

Congratulations Cyan you managed to breathe new life back into this old classic.....many thanks x

Having now seen night in Channelwood, I think they tried hard to compensate for leaving it out of the original RealMyst. :oo:

The engine is Unity3D -- you can see ".unity3d" files in the application package.

Haha! Well, Stoneship has some batteries in the lighthouse, and the Channelwood bookroom has a good old fashioned earth lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. So it's not TOO much of a stretch, right? :D

I was just lucky enough to have that flashlight with me when I found that weird book at my local library. Always gotta be prepared, y'know.

Atrus probably got it from Everdunes.

Everything's from Everdunes.
