And we're now approaching 1000% of the original goal with 40 hours left.

Get in there and pledge if you haven't. And if you already have, bump up your pledge to the next level.

There has been much speculation on the Kickstarter site about how the linking panel in the “working” linking book (Maintainer tier) will behave.

As an engineer with great respect for Cyan’s ability to give us the best experience, I’ll add my |) | cents.

    I predict: (Read: hope)
    - Adding up all of the flybys from all of the games, the images shown on the linking panel will have to be user selectable.
    - Opening the book will automatically activate a flyby movie just like the “real” books in the games. A simple proximity switch hidden in the pages on either side will accomplish this. (Think greeting cards but without the clunky mechanical activator.)
    - You will be able to switch scenes by touching the panel. The cost of a 5in x 2.75in (12cm x 7cm) LCD screen is minimal purchased in bulk and they’re going to order a few thousand of these. (I’m surprised it’s not LED since the cost would be the same or less.) (AMOLED would be best but cost more.) Touch screen technology is ubiquitous and costs next to nothing.
    - The specs include a speaker so it will play a linking sound when you touch the linking panel. (But which one? That of Myst, Riven, Exile?) Heh. It will depend on which game you are viewing in the linking panel, won’t it?
    - It will play the flyby music from the game displayed while you are watching.
    - When you touch the panel you will land at the linking point. To reset, close and open the book. Or maybe just tap the panel.
    - Open the book and the Myst flyby is shown. Swipe, not tap, the panel and it will switch to Riven. Swipe again, Exile, etc.
    - The specs state, “And if you connect a USB cable to the book, you might just discover some other digital goodies we’ve included.” I‘m thinking Easter eggs you can view on your computer or mobile device.

Anyway, that’s how I would design it.

I wanted an inkwell but did know where to put it. (No comments from the peanut gallery!) I have enough dust collecting knick·knacks already. ;)

    So now... this e-mail:

    One Million and Climbing!!
    Posted by Cyan, Inc.
    $1,000,000 +
    Yikes!

    $1,000,000

    $1,019,409
    pledged of $247,500 goal
    6,392 backers

NOW. What are we going to do with the next 34 days?
More importantly, what is Cyan going to do?

We all got this e-mail but...

We were working on so many other things (testing games, LCD screens specs, linking book UI/UX, flyby collection, etc.) that we weren't really prepared to pass the million mark so quickly. Wow! What an amazing week and a half! We're really excited that you're excited about what we've put together in this collection.
Mac News: We know there are a lot of Mac explorers out there - Rand is one of them. We knew there were some options for some of the games for Mac, but they would involve resources Cyan didn't have. Once we felt a bit more comfortable about spending the money, we took the first steps down the Mac paths. Good news - the report so far is that it looks like we'll be able to have Mac versions for at least a few of the games, and we are still investigating the others. We'll keep you updated with further progress. Thanks for your patience, and fingers crossed!
Oh, yeah, for those of you with the LCD linking panel option - it looks like we'll have close to 40 movies that you'll be able to view. So much fun! We'll give you more details on the panel specs in an upcoming update.
Okay, now back to work. Just needed a brief break to bask in the one million euphoria! Thank you all so much for the support!

You might have looked at my age and noticed my Birthday is the same as my Joined date. It was a good joke when I was supposed to be 2 and 3 years old in 2003 and 2004 but the joke is over. My actual age is... *INTERNET CONNECTION TERMINATED*
