Chogon who is acting currently as Community Manager for MOUL from Cyan has said that if there is to be a Restoration of MOUL the Guilds will play a much bigger role than in the past...and that it would be great if eveyrone would look at the current Guilds, the five major ones and there are several more ...and choose one and Join smile.gif

Maintainers,

Writers,

Messengers,

Cartographers

Greeters

with a beginning made on the Guild of Healers and a long established Guild of Archivists. Maintainers explore and certify newly discovered areas as safe for exploration, and are involved in helping learn about the Age making process and how to test them for problems OOC as well as IC. They are active and have a very nice site. GOW, Guild of Writers are very active creative and presently working on learning to build new Ages improving skills or learning them in the OOC process of making Ages with existing tools on the chance that explorers will have the chance to help contribute content to a future restored MOUL. They also have an excellent site and a number of already existing Ages which the explorer can learn about on their site. The GoMe, Guild of Messengers have developed wonderful resources for keeping us all informed and in touch, and a great system of news distribution and Guild members are active in The Cavern Today network, the magazine, The Archiver, the Guild newsletter and Rel.to, the nexus of all Myst and MOUL related material and information. The Guild of Cartographers is at this time quiet, and the Guild resources are hosted on their technical site, but there are plans to possibly create a new site and expand the current membership and revive the Guild. The Gulid of Healers has had some meetings and is in the development stage. The Guild of Archivists maintains wonderful historic resources. The latest issue of the Archivist has details on all the guilds and contact information or you can find it at http://rel.to/

The Guilds Today

This is interesting and exciting news of course, and I wanted to share some links with you all and information that was recently included in an article in the latest issue of the Archiver and also share a few thoughts about the Guilds. The Guilds were an important part of D'ni history for they were an essential and integral part of how the D'ni evolved here in their new home on earth and the Guilds played a rich and varied part in their history.

The GoMe is working to keep the community in touch and up to date. They have an effective news distribution system set up, and MOUL community members can file stories and information for speedy delivery.  The GoMe also distributes a (semi-)monthly newsletter and is discussing how to develop a presence in other venues as a measure against community fracturing.

Currently the GoMe is working on getting the next "Where R U URU" newsletter out. The Guild is also working on the interface with Cyan to ensure accuracy of any significant stories and also to assist in conveying information and messages from Cyan to the MOUL community at large.

The Guild is looking at their Code of Conduct, revising it to reflect the situation that we do not have access to the cavern at the moment

The Guild of Maintainers is very active in studying and preparing for the possibility of Age making and contribution of player made materials and Ages to the possible future MOUL. The maintainers are training in detecting bugs and problems in player made ages with special training Ages that have been created for this purpose - Camp Bravo training ages. Andy Legate is busy updating both Camp Bravo versions, and expanding Zephyr Cove, the GoMa recreational age.

The GoM is active in support and similar training in other 3D worlds that the MOUL community members have moved to for the duration of the Intermission, including There. In there, the Maintainers have been active in assisting in the maintenance of areas and structures including bridges and construction of an appropriate area for recreation and training based around the Vanguard village near Tyr Tower Guild members have set up a branch of Camp Bravo on Tyr Plateau. They have also established a region in the Age of Tyr and proposed names for this area include Eder Devokan. Uru explorers have been generous in helping, by donating things and effort including Leonardo and PhillippH and ametist. On the nearby hill is a new Gahreesen including a meeting room for 32 people to gather round There is also a Labyrinth and other facilities. Nynaveve is making clothes and PhilippeH has starting making objects inspired by Uru including a blue ball light that could be used in a light garden Popular There designers have also been making GoMa things- Dalriada made us a flag and a flutterbug with the GoMa logo originally designed by Montgomery.

GoW Wiki
http://wiki.guildofwriters.com

The development team of the GoW is working on making features available to the writers.Current development focus on writing tools has been animations, and water. Writers can now make full realistic water, and in the very near future, animations can be achieved. Also of note is that main Age sharing and distribution tool, ULM is undergoing a complete overhaul (in co-operation with the Maintainers), adapting it to the current guild structure, and requirements of writers and explorers alike. In regards to the writing of ages, GoW have held their first Rapid Age Development contest recently, which has yielded very nice results. Especially worthy to explore is Zephyr Cove, an age written by a number of the fellow Guild Maintainer friends, which is a beautiful beach area.

In other Writing news, Ahra Pahts is closing in on its full (1.0) release, and GoW is currently planning a new Rapid Development Contest, this time focused specifically on Ahra Pahts Shells (Relatively small Areas anyone can sign up for, and fill in).

Guild of Writers is currently most in need of Tutorial and Documentation writers, people who are willing to continuously poke the developers for much needed information, and expand the Wiki with this information.

Many people are also awaiting the new versions of both the PyPRP Blender plugin, and the ULM Distribution software. PyPRP 2.0.0 should be finished within the next month, and Trylon and his team have been working hard on ULM to get it released once they've got everything working.

There will be a new "Rapid Age Development contest focusing on 2.0: Ahra Pahts Shells". The contest is still in the discussion stages, but will most likely be happening within the next two months. Watch the forums for more information, sign-up, and general discussion about the contest, Ahra Pahts, PyPRP, and everything else related to writing Ages.

Guild of Healers

Ghaelen

The Guild of Healers is slowly building a forum and website that will provide information regarding D'ni healing and the Guild. Since the close of MOUL, progress is at a minimum; however, we have begun collecting what information there is. There is also a place on the forum for speculative discussions about the Guild and things such medicinal plants that seem common to both the cavern and the surface.

There is a temporary home for the Guild of Healers called "Guild of Healer's Groves" in an MMO called Kaneva. It is public if anyone would like to go. There are different areas and Ghaelen is there to build two or three times per week. Anyone is welcome to go and explore the area. It is a large area so there are a few desolate places yet. Some sections have turned out rather nice, and there are hopes to have a gathering this summer. Ghaelen is there as ghaelen or Ghaelen DLareh.

From the DRC site, we learn the following about the historic Guilds of the D'ni:

The Guilds of Yore

Guilds of the D'ni

This is a list of the Guilds of the D'ni in alphabetical order, separated into major and minor categories. For more information about the Guilds, check for individual entries with the A to Z Guide.

There were a great many minor guilds in D'ni. We know of only a few so far. More will be added as we learn about them. There were 18 Major Guilds at the Time of the Fall over 300 years ago now...

Additional Information
* The Guild of Fine Artists was once was a major guild, but was broken up into minor guilds by King Naygen in the year 2488 DE. At the same time, Naygen made the minor Guild of Miners into a major guild. (King Naygen Notebook)

According to information from Dr. Watson, noted D'ni historian, there was a minor guild that handled burial arrangements for the D'ni. We do not at this time have a name for this guild.

This is informatoin provided by the D'ni Historian, RAWA (Richard Watson) on the historic Guilds of D'ni:

OK. Here's a bit of info on the guild structure.

Not to add to the confusion, but this is an error in the Book of Ti'ana.
The sentence on page 157 should read:

"The six assistant _Guild_ Masters, and the Grand Master..."

Editor's Note:
The phrase in The Book of Ti'ana says, "The six assistant Grand Masters and the Grand Master." This had led fans to believe that there was a Guild designation of Assistant Grand Master. RAWA corrected that misimpression as follows.

There were many Guild Masters in each of the Guilds, but only one Grand Master for each Guild. Only a handful of the Guild Masters in each Guild were elected to the Council. The others had supervisory roles in their Guild or could be assistants to the Grand Master of their Guild.

The Great Lords were Grand Masters long before they were promoted. The Great Lords were still often referred to as Grand Masters of their Guild, though, this isn't their accurate title. Their title was simply Great Lord, and a new Grand Master was appointed to take their place in their Guild.

When a Great Lord died, a replacement could come from any of the eighteen major Guilds. The list given here (Writers, Miners, Books, Ink-Makers, and Maintainers - pg. 55) is a list of the five Guilds represented at this point in D'ni history.

How the replacement was chosen, whether it was seniority, age, popularity, some kind of vote, or another method, is not clear from what we currently know of D'ni history. My opinion is that it was probably a vote among the members of the High Council, but I could be wrong.

I feel that there were 18 GMs on the High Council, plus the Five Great Lords because of the way they are referred to sometimes in BoT.

You are correct again. The 18 Grand Masters are separate from the 5 Great Lords. So if you still count the Great Lords as Grand Masters (I do not, though David Windgrove often did), then you would say there are 23 Grand Masters.

Hope that helps.

Shorah,

RAWA

The Guilds and Us Today

It is my personal opinion that the Guilds of today will be something we discover together, and rebuild. Of course the historic D'ni Guilds are gone and will not be restored as they were, for we are not D'ni and we do not know more than the barest of details of their history and structure. However, they, the Guilds we have today, can and do serve a valuable way to help bring together our energy and strength as a community and can also be a lot of fun to share in and with, just as neighborhood membership can and does also provide a personal imprint or foot print to our presence in the Cavern. We do not know yet the future or the possiblities of restoration of our work in the Cavern, for we continue currently on the surface and the Cavern remains closed for maintenance. However, word has come to us to look at the existing Guilds and to think of finding one to join and to share with and in. All the currently existing Guilds are very cordial and welcoming, and our exploration of Guilds and the future can certainly give us lots of personal freedome to explore and to share, and to continue this remarkable journey.

Shorah!

I'd like to add a shameless plug for the Guild of Caterers, if you don't mind. The forums haven't been up for long, but we're trying to recruit more members biggrin.gif
We're trying to put together ideas for D'ni related dishes based on what they had available and how they might put everything together.

I just thought I'd make mention of it! If you'd like to join up, check out the link. We like to see new faces around!
