For those of you who aren't aware, he's the actor who plays Saavedro.
I was flipping through channels last night and saw him in a Steven King movie: Graveyard Shift. (Didn't watch much of the movie.) But, it's kinda weird seeing him doing other roles. Lord of the Rings being one of them. I know he's on HBO, now, but he doesnt look so much like Saavedro, so its ok. |

Right you are operachild! But he's in "Exile". Why are you posting in "Revelations"?
And (for those who may see the same) Brad looks very similar to Gary Sinise, though Brads eyes are a wee bit more wild I think RIVER |

I thought Saavedro was in Myst III: Exile. If so, wrong forum. And some Saavy fans here went wild when they found out Dourif would play Wormtongue in LoTR: The Two Towers. Being that the only other time I've seen Dourif was in Myst III: Exile, though, I find it hard to imagine him without the wacky hair and red outfit. I'm still on the lookout for what I think is a trademark of his, those "psycho eyes".

Sure, J'ohn, if you consider a single spoken reference in passing an "appearence"...
But yeah, Brad Dourif has been in a number of things, a few of which I've seen- he was, um, somebody, in Mississippi Burning (I watched the entire movie looking out for him, and still couldn't pick him out Yep, Dourif is a great actor, and IMO very underrated. He did a brilliant job of being Wormtongue (as well as Saavy |

Here is Brad Dourif's complete filmography. He has been quite active.
QUOTE (Prince Sunner @ above) I'm still on the lookout for what I think is a trademark of his, those "psycho eyes". Then you're advised to find that X-Files episode in which he starred as a psychotic seer.... Hehe... QUOTE Sure, J'ohn, if you consider a single spoken reference in passing an "appearence"... Actually there's a (visual) flashback of Saavedro in Revelation... Its location is rather obvious, so I won't post any spoilers, but it's definitely there. SBS |

QUOTE (J'ohn @ Feb 1 2005, 04:30 AM) Then you're advised to find that X-Files episode in which he starred as a psychotic seer.... Hehe... 1x13, Beyond the Sea. I'd been told by a friend (from here, actually) to watch that episode, and when I did see it I was like "OMG it's Saavedro!". They didn't tell me that he was gonna be in it, so it was a shock, but a pleasant one! It was so cool seeing him in that role. He pulls off the not-so-sane act very well; that role must have been one of the things he heavily drew on for his role in Myst III. |

QUOTE Brad Dourif has been in a number of things, a few of which I've seen- he was, um, somebody, in Mississippi Burning (I watched the entire movie looking out for him, and still couldn't pick him out ) He played the abusive cop (deputy?) who beats up his wife after Gene Hackman tries to get information out of her. If I remember the film correctly, he was a pretty important secondary character. He was also one of my favorite guest characters on Star Trek: Voyager. And he was in the movie Dune -- during filming for Exile, he told me that if you watch his character in Dune, you'll notice he's always moving his hands. He's actually hand-speaking lines that run counter to whatever Brad is saying on screen the entire time, but it's in a sign language that Brad completely made up, so I doubt any of us will ever know what he's saying! -Mary |

QUOTE He was also one of my favorite guest characters on Star Trek: Voyager. Ooo...yeah, he was creepy! In a good way! QUOTE And he was in the movie Dune -- during filming for Exile, he told me that if you watch his character in Dune, you'll notice he's always moving his hands. He's actually hand-speaking lines that run counter to whatever Brad is saying on screen the entire time, but it's in a sign language that Brad completely made up, so I doubt any of us will ever know what he's saying! That's awesome! They kind of did the same thing in the Children of Dune mini-series (which I never managed to see the second half of) but they had it subtitles of what the hand gestures were saying. I had no idea Brad was doing that too. Wow! I have to confess, it's really hard for me to look at him the same way now when I watch his films and shows because he's so firmly entrenched in my mind as Saavedro. I found myself feeling irrationally sorry for Wormtongue in The Two Towers (actually, at one point I reflexively said, "Don't hit Saavedro!" under my breath when Saruman got aggressive with Wormtongue and the person sitting next to me gave me a weird look. Luckily it was someone I knew who is used to my randomness. I actually didn't know before I rented it that he was going to be in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I watched the movie because my psychology teacher recommended it, but he was really good in it. Annacat |

I had the pleasure of drawing (layout) Brad's idiot savant "Cuckoos Nest" character on The Simpsons' "Michael Jackson" episode. Back then, I had no idea that this actor would later portray the future Saavy. Neither did he. What a great job from a great actor. He's fun. He's a great work of art. God bless him.

I'd say he's a good actor, although he seems to be type-cast a lot
Which person does he play in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest? Could you describe the char for me? And why does he sign stuff contrary to what he's saying in Dune (and the same character does it again in the mini-series?) Does it do it in the book? I'm up to Prelude to Dune: House Harkonnen and haven't seen any hints of that |

Has anybody ever noticed the following?
QUOTE (Brad Dourif @ One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest) NO! No! No no no! No no no no no no.... QUOTE (Brad Dourif @ Myst III: Exile) NO! No! No no no! No no no no no no.... Personally, I think he's superb at what he does, and his characters are very lifelike. I'll be he'll have a long and successful carreer. |

QUOTE (and the same character does it again in the mini-series?) I'm sorry, no, it isn't the same character, it's that the characters do the same thing. It's been about 8 years since I saw One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but a very young Brad Dourif played a naive and kind of sweet in a weird way although intensely emotionally messed up young man, whose name, if I recall right, is Billy. (Untangle the grammar in that sentence; I dare you. Annacat |

1st, he's my favorite actor, but another movie I think you people should catch him in (which I didn't see listed) is Child's Play. Sure, he doesn't have the biggest part in it as an actual person, but technically he's in all of them, seeing as how he's the voice of Chucky.
Didn't anyone know that? For those that liked Billy Bibbit (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) you should check out his cameo in Urban Legend. First few minutes of the movie, I think. Very much like the same character. He's in the movie Amos & Andrew as well, but as a completely different character than we're used to. Comic Relief. Crazy, huh? Pretty funny movie though. Anyhow.... He's great! |

Why has no one mentioned his role as the private driver in "The Eyes of Laura Mars"? A very early role for him (also Tommy Lee Jones - just look at his HAIR).

He had an important role in a movie that I think was called Ragtime, sometime during the 80's. Don't remember much of it though, been quite a while since I saw it...

Ah, Lon Suder, the most underrated Voyager plotline ever. http://www.strekonline.com/voy/synopses/s3...ics2-suder1.jpg One of my favorite things to watch him in was Wise Blood--adaptation of a Flannery O'Connor novel made in the seventies. It's just about impossible to get a copy of, but if your rental store or what-have-you happens to have it, it's worth a watch. (My college library has it.) He plays a young man, disillusioned by war, who sets himself up as a minister of the church of no god and falls into nihilism and self-destruction. Disturbing as heek, and one of the few times you get to see him in a lead role. |

Nor do I remember who Piter De Vries is in Dune, nor the several other movies I watched with him in it...... [geek] Episodes: "Meld" (second season of Voyager) and Basics 1/2 (the second to third season cliffhanger.) Piter de Vries: The Mentat for the Harkonnen family, and not the normal breed; people call him a "twisted Mentat." A sadistic and exquisitely innovative torturer, and with a dark obsession with Jessica. The Baron keeps him in control by spice addiction (and god only knows what other drugs), so he's got eyes as blue as any Fremen, but both adaptations missed that detail. (Which is just as well, because both adaptations didn't get the eyes right anyway.) Brad Dourif was Piter in David Lynch's version. The Sci-Fi channel's version had somebody badly cast and utterly unmemorable as Piter, which is at least consistent, given that just about everybody else in that was also badly cast and unmemorable. What a coincidence! I just watched Urban legends (an hour ago) and got really shocked at the beginning where he plays this 'madman' who desperately tries to warn the young woman but isn't successful because he has no...voice...
Wow, It's obvious that he often plays very difficult and extreme characters. Such actors are very rare and I compare him with Jack Nicholson who is awesome. |
